PINPOINT TEST K : The ACM Does Not Respond To The Scan Tool

NOTE: Failure to disconnect the battery when instructed will result in false resistance readings. REFER to Battery, Mounting and Cables

  1. K1 CHECK THE I-CAN TERMINATION RESISTANCE

    • Ignition OFF.
    • Disconnect: Negative Battery Cable.
    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    Is the resistance between 54 and 66 ohms? 

    Yes  GO to  K3.
    No  GO to  K2.
  2. K2 CHECK THE I-CAN TERMINATION RESISTANCE WITH THE ACM DISCONNECTED

    • Disconnect: ACM C240A.
    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    Is the resistance between 108 and 132 ohms? 

    Yes  GO to  K5.
    No  GO to Pinpoint Test H .
  3. K3 CHECK THE ACM VOLTAGE SUPPLY CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN

    • Ignition OFF.
    • Connect: Negative Battery Cable.
    • Disconnect: ACM C240A.
    • Ignition ON.
    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

      Ground

    Is the voltage greater than 11 volts? 

    Yes  GO to  K4.
    No  VERIFY the BCM fuse 29 (20A) is OK. If OK, REPAIR the circuit. If not OK, REFER to the OEM ELECTRICAL WIRING DIAGRAM INTRODUCTION to identify the possible causes of the circuit short.
  4. K4 CHECK THE ACM GROUND CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN

    • Ignition OFF.
    • Disconnect: Negative Battery Cable.
    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

      Ground

    Is the resistance less than 3 ohms? 

    Yes  CONNECT the negative battery cable. GO to  K8.
    No  REPAIR the circuit.
  5. K5 CHECK THE I-CAN CIRCUITS BETWEEN THE ACM AND THE IPC FOR AN OPEN

    • Disconnect: IPC.
    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    Are the resistances less than 3 ohms? 

    Yes  GO to  K6.
    No  REPAIR the circuit in question.
  6. K6 CHECK THE I-CAN CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO POWER

    • Connect: ACM C240A.
    • Connect: Negative Battery Cable.
    • Ignition ON.
    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    Is the voltage greater than 3 volts on either circuit? 

    Yes  REPAIR the circuit in question.
    No  GO to  K7.
  7. K7 CHECK THE I-CAN CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO GROUND

    • Ignition OFF.
    • Disconnect: Negative Battery Cable.
    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    Are the resistances greater than 10, 000 ohms? 

    Yes  CONNECT the negative battery cable. GO to  K8.
    No  REPAIR the circuit in question.
  8. K8 CHECK FOR CORRECT ACM OPERATION

    • Ignition OFF.
    • Disconnect and inspect the ACM connectors and related in-line connectors.
    • Repair:
      • corrosion (replace connector or terminals - clean module pins)
      • damaged or bent pins - replace terminals/pins
      • pushed-out pins - replace pins as necessary
    • Reconnect the ACM connectors and related in-line connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.
    • Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.

    Is the concern still present? 

    Yes  CHECK OASIS for any applicable TSBs. If a TSB exists for this concern, discontinue this test and follow TSB instructions. If no TSBs address this concern, INSTALL a new ACM. REFER to Information and Entertainment Systems Premium (Premium), REFER to Information and Entertainment Systems Premium Plus (Premium Plus) or REFER to Information and Entertainment Systems Sony Sound (Sony ® Sound).
    No  The system is operating correctly at this time. Concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
