PINPOINT TEST E : U210A:11 or U210A:15

  1. E1 CHECK THE Heated Steering Wheel Module (HSWM) DTCs

    • Ignition ON.
    • Using a scan tool, perform the Heated Steering Wheel Module (HSWM) self-test.

    Is DTC U210A:11 present? 

    Yes  GO to  E2.
    No  For DTC U210A:15, GO to  E5. For all other DTCs, REFER to Steering Column .
  2. E2 CHECK THE HEATER ELEMENT TEMPERATURE SENSOR REFERENCE CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUNDS

    • Ignition OFF.
    • Disconnect: Heated Steering Wheel Module (HSWM) C2406.
    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

      Ground

    Is the resistance greater than 10, 000 ohms? 

    Yes  GO to  E6.
    No  GO to  E3.
  3. E3 CHECK THE HEATER ELEMENT TEMPERATURE SENSOR REFERENCE CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND

    • Disconnect: Clockspring C218A.
    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

      Ground

    Is the resistance greater than 10, 000 ohms? 

    Yes  GO to  E4.
    No  REPAIR the circuit. CONNECT clockspring C218A and Heated Steering Wheel Module (HSWM) C2406. REPOWER the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS). REFER to Supplemental Restraint System - With Intelligent Access or REFER to Supplemental Restraint System - Without Intelligent Access .
  4. E4 CHECK THE HEATER ELEMENT TEMPERATURE SENSOR RESISTANCE

    • Disconnect: Clockspring C218B.
    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead
      (Steering Wheel Side) C218B-1

      Ground

    Is the resistance greater than 10, 000 ohms? 

    Yes  CONNECT Heated Steering Wheel Module (HSWM) C2406. INSTALL a new clockspring. REFER to Supplemental Restraint System .
    No  CONNECT Heated Steering Wheel Module (HSWM) C2406. INSTALL a new steering wheel. REFER to Steering Wheel .
  5. E5 CHECK THE HEATER ELEMENT TEMPERATURE SENSOR REFERENCE AND GROUND CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE

    • Ignition OFF.
    • Disconnect: Clockspring C218A.
    • Disconnect: Heated Steering Wheel Module (HSWM).
    • Connect: Battery Ground Cable C1100B.
    • Ignition ON.
    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    Is any voltage present? 

    Yes  REPAIR the affected circuit. DISCONNECT battery ground cable C1100B. CONNECT clockspring C218A and Heated Steering Wheel Module (HSWM) C2406. REPOWER the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS). REFER to Supplemental Restraint System - With Intelligent Access or REFER to Supplemental Restraint System - Without Intelligent Access. .
    No  TURN the ignition OFF, DISCONNECT the battery ground cable C1100B, CONNECT clockspring C218A and GO to  E6.
  6. E6 CHECK THE HEATER ELEMENT TEMPERATURE SENSOR AND CIRCUIT RESISTANCE

    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    Is the resistance between 627 and 670, 000 ohms? 

    Yes  GO to  E10.
    No  If the resistance is less than 670 ohms, GO to  E7. If the resistance is more than the 670, 000 ohms, GO to  E8.
  7. E7 CHECK THE HEATER ELEMENT TEMPERATURE SENSOR CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT

    • Disconnect: Clockspring C218A.
    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    Is the resistance greater than 10, 000 ohms? 

    Yes  GO to  E9.
    No  REPAIR the circuits. CONNECT clockspring C218A and C2406. REPOWER the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS). REFER to Supplemental Restraint System - With Intelligent Access or REFER to Supplemental Restraint System - Without Intelligent Access. .
  8. E8 CHECK THE HEATER ELEMENT TEMPERATURE SENSOR CIRCUITS FOR AN OPEN

    • Disconnect: Clockspring C218A.
    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    Are the resistances less than 3 ohms? 

    Yes  GO to  E9.
    No  REPAIR the affected circuit. CONNECT clockspring C218A and Heated Steering Wheel Module (HSWM) C2406. REPOWER the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS). REFER to Supplemental Restraint System - With Intelligent Access or REFER to Supplemental Restraint System - Without Intelligent Access. .
  9. E9 CHECK THE HEATER ELEMENT TEMPERATURE SENSOR RESISTANCE

    • Disconnect: Clockspring C218B.
    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    Is the resistance between 627 and 670, 000 ohms? 

    Yes  CONNECT Heated Steering Wheel Module (HSWM) C2406. INSTALL a new clockspring. REFER to Supplemental Restraint System .
    No  CONNECT Heated Steering Wheel Module (HSWM) C2406. INSTALL a new steering wheel. REFER to Steering Wheel .
  10. E10 CHECK THE Heated Steering Wheel Module (HSWM) CONNECTION

    • Disconnect and inspect all Heated Steering Wheel Module (HSWM) connectors.
    • Repair:
      • corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
      • damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/ pins
      • pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary
    • Reconnect the Heated Steering Wheel Module (HSWM) connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.
    • Ignition ON.
    • Clear the DTCs.
    • Using a scan tool, perform the Heated Steering Wheel Module (HSWM) self-test.
    • Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.

    Is the concern still present? 

    Yes  CHECK OASIS for any applicable TSBs. If a TSB exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW TSB instructions. If no TSBs address this concern, INSTALL a new Heated Steering Wheel Module (HSWM). REFER to Heated Steering Wheel Module (HSWM) .
    No  The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
