Symptom Chart: Seating - Climate Controlled

Diagnostics in this article assume a certain skill level and knowledge of Ford-specific diagnostic practices. REFER to SERVICE INFORMATION for information regarding Ford-specific diagnostic practices.

No communication with the DCSM	Fuse Wiring, terminals or connectors DCSM	Refer to article 'Module Communications Network', Go to PINPOINT TEST Q : THE DCSM DOES NOT RESPOND TO THE SCAN TOOL .
All climate controlled seats are inoperative	Fuse Wiring, terminals or connectors I-CAN communication fault HS-CAN communication fault MS-CAN communication fault DCSM FCIM APIM FDIM	VERIFY BJB fuse 28 (30A) is OK. If OK, CARRY OUT the network test using a diagnostic scan tool and VERIFY network communication of the FCIM and DCSM. REFER to COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK , Symptom Chart to diagnose a module communication or network concern. If OK, CARRY OUT the DCSM self-test and RETRIEVE any DTCs. If any DTC is present, Refer to Seating . VERIFY the touchscreen operation. If the touchscreen does not operate correctly, refer to INFORMATION AND ENTERTAINMENT SYSTEMS - PREMIUM PLUS (if equipped with Premium Plus) or Refer to article 'Information and Entertainment Systems Sony Sound', Go to PINPOINT TEST L : THE RF TWEETER SPEAKER IS INOPERATIVE OR HAS POOR SOUND QUALITY (if equipped with Sony Sound). If OK, INSTALL a new DCSM. Refer to Dual Climate Controlled Seat Module (DCSM) .
A single climate controlled seat is inoperative	Wiring, terminals or connectors APIM FDIM DCSM	NOTE: If a fault occurs setting a DTC specific to only one climate controlled seat, the DCSM disables only the affected seat outputs and allow the other seat to remain operational. CHECK for DTCs specific to the affected climate controlled seat and if a DTC is present, Refer to Seating . GO to PINPOINT TEST N : A Single Climate Controlled Seat is Inoperative .
A single climate controlled seat does not operate correctly - poor or intermittent cooling/heating	Excessive sun load or extreme cabin temperatures Incorrectly installed TED or manifold Air flow blockage TED DCSM	CARRY OUT the DCSM self-test and retrieve any DTCs. If any DTC is present, Refer to Seating . If no DTC is present, CHECK the affected seat cushion or backrest for correct installation of the climate controlled seat components (TED, manifold air duct and foam pad) and REPAIR as needed. If OK, CHECK for air flow restrictions (TED inlets and outlets, TED -to-manifold connections, filters and ducts) and REPAIR as needed. CHECK the TED cooling performance on the affected seat and VERIFY the system is operating correctly. Refer to Seating .
A single climate controlled seat does not operate correctly - exhibits poor air flow or performance	Incorrectly installed TED or manifold Air flow blockage Disconnected air duct	CARRY OUT the DCSM self-test and retrieve any DTCs. If any DTC is present, Refer to Seating . If no DTC is present, CHECK the affected seat cushion or backrest for correct installation of the climate controlled seat components (TED, manifold air duct and foam pad) and REPAIR as needed. If OK, CHECK for air flow restrictions (TED inlets and outlets, TED -to-manifold connections, filters and ducts) and REPAIR as needed. RETEST the system for normal operation.
