PINPOINT TEST F : Incorrect Tachometer Indication
- F1 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM THE PCM KOEO SELF-TEST
- Using a scan tool, perform the PCM KOEO self-test.
Are any DTCs recorded?
Yes REFER to ENGINE CONTROLS - SYMPTOM CHARTS (EXCEPT DIESEL & HYBRID) . No GO to F2. - F2 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM THE IPC SELF-TEST
- Using a scan tool, perform the IPC self-test.
Are any DTCs recorded?
Yes For DTC U0100:00, GO to Pinpoint Test AR . For all other DTCs, REFER to DTC Chart: IPC . No GO to F3. - F3 CARRY OUT THE TACHOMETER ACTIVE COMMAND USING THE SCAN TOOL
- Ignition ON.
- Using a scan tool, view the IPC PIDs.
- Select the IPC tachometer (TACH_IND) PID. Command the tachometer in 10% increments while monitoring the tachometer.
Does the tachometer indication increase by 600 RPM (optional IPC bar graph display), 700 RPM (base IPC or IPC analog gauge display) for each 10% increment?
Yes GO to F4. No Refer to IPC Hardware Testing . - F4 CHECK THE PCM Revolutions Per Minute (RPM) PID
- Using a scan tool, view the PCM PIDs.
- Select the PCM engine Revolutions Per Minute (RPM) PID (RPM) and set the engine Revolutions Per Minute (RPM) to 1, 000, 1, 500, 2, 000 and 2, 500 Revolutions Per Minute (RPM).
- Monitor the engine PCM Revolutions Per Minute (RPM) PID (RPM) with the engine at 1, 000, 1, 500, 2, 000 and 2, 500 Revolutions Per Minute (RPM).
Does the tachometer indication range between 944-1, 056 at 1, 000 RPM, 1, 444-1, 556 RPM at 1, 500 RPM, 1, 944-2, 056 RPM at 2, 000 RPM and 2, 444-2, 556 RPM at 2, 500 RPM?
Yes The tachometer is operating correctly at this time. No Refer to IPC Hardware Testing .
