PINPOINT TEST O : One Or More Demand Lamps Are Inoperative

  1. O1 CHECK THE COURTESY LAMP OPERATION

    • Open the left front door and observe the interior courtesy lamps.

    Do the interior courtesy lamps illuminate? 

    Yes  GO to  O2.
    No  GO to Pinpoint Test F .
  2. O2 CHECK ALL THE DEMAND LAMPS

    • Check the operation of all the demand (map and vanity mirror) lamps.

    Are all the demand lamps inoperative? 

    Yes  VERIFY the BCM fuse 4 (10A) is OK. If OK, GO to  O3.
    No  For a vanity mirror or glove compartment lamp, GO to  O4. For a map/reading lamp, GO to  O6. For a task lamp (police package only), GO to  O8.
  3. NOTE: If the jumper wire fails, refer to the OEM ELECTRICAL WIRING DIAGRAM INTRODUCTION to identify the possible causes of the circuit short.

  4. O3 BYPASS THE BCM
    • Disconnect: BCM C2280D.
    • Connect:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

      Positive Battery Terminal
    • Switch any demand (map or vanity mirror) lamp on.

    Does the demand lamp illuminate when switched on? 

    Yes  REMOVE the jumper wire. GO to  O10.
    No  REMOVE the jumper wire. REPAIR the demand lamp voltage supply circuit for an open.
  5. O4 CHECK FOR VOLTAGE TO THE INOPERATIVE LAMP

    • Ignition OFF.
    • Disconnect: Inoperative Lamp.
    • Ignition ON.
    • For a vanity mirror lamp, measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    • For the glove compartment lamp, measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    Is the voltage greater than 11 volts? 

    Yes  GO to  O5.
    No  REPAIR the demand lamp voltage supply circuit for an open.
  6. O5 CHECK THE LAMP GROUND CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN

    • For a vanity mirror lamp, measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    • For the glove compartment lamp, measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    Is the voltage greater than 11 volts? 

    Yes  INSTALL a new lamp for the lamp in question.
    No  REPAIR the ground circuit in question.
  7. O6 CHECK FOR VOLTAGE TO THE INOPERATIVE MAP/READING LAMP

    • Ignition OFF.
    • Disconnect: Inoperative Lamp.
    • Ignition ON.
    • For a front map/reading lamp (overhead console), measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    • For a rear map/reading lamp (with roof opening panel), measure:

    • For a rear map/reading lamp (without roof opening panel) or cargo lamp, measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    Is the voltage greater than 11 volts? 

    Yes  GO to  O7.
    No  REPAIR the demand lamp voltage supply circuit for an open.
  8. O7 CHECK THE MAP/READING LAMP GROUND CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN

    • For a front interior lamp (overhead console), measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    • For a rear interior lamp (with roof opening panel), measure:

    • For a rear interior lamp (without roof opening panel) or cargo lamp, measure:

    Is the voltage greater than 11 volts? 

    Yes  INSTALL a new interior lamp for the lamp in question. Refer to Interior Lamp - First Row , Refer to Interior Lamp - Second Row With Moon Roof  or Refer to Interior Lamp - Second Row Without Moon Roof, Third Row .
    No  REPAIR the ground circuit for the lamp in question.
  9. O8 CHECK FOR VOLTAGE TO THE INOPERATIVE TASK LAMP

    • Ignition OFF.
    • Disconnect: Task Lamp.
    • Ignition ON.
    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    Is the voltage greater than 11 volts? 

    Yes  GO to  O9.
    No  REPAIR the demand lamp voltage supply circuit for an open.
  10. O9 CHECK THE TASK LAMP GROUND CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN

    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    Is the voltage greater than 11 volts? 

    Yes  INSTALL a new task lamp.
    No  REPAIR the ground circuit in question.
  11. O10 CHECK FOR CORRECT BCM OPERATION

    • Disconnect the BCM connectors.
    • Repair:
      • corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
      • corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
      • pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary
    • Reconnect the BCM connectors and make sure they seat and latch correctly.
    • Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.

    Is the concern still present? 

    Yes  CHECK OASIS for any applicable TSBs. If a TSB exists for this concern, discontinue this test and follow TSB instructions. If no TSBs address this concern, INSTALL a new BCM. REFER to Multifunction Electronic Modules - Without Intelligent Access or REFER to Multifunction Electronic Modules - With Intelligent Access .
    No  The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues. CLEAR the DTCs.
