PINPOINT TEST Q : The Ambient Lighting Is Inoperative
- Q1 CHECK FOR COMMUNICATION TO THE HVAC MODULE
- Ignition ON.
- Using a scan tool, perform network test.
Does the scan tool communicate with the HVAC module?
Yes GO to Q2. No Refer to article 'Module Communications Network', Go to Pinpoint Test J . - Q2 CHECK THE CLIMATE CONTROL OPERATION
- Check the operation of the climate control system and verify that all of the climate controls operate correctly.
Does the climate control system operate correctly?
Yes For the front footwell, rear footwell or center console, GO to Q3. For the LH or RH front door, GO to Q5. No REFER to Climate Control DATC , Symptom Chart: Climate Control - DAMB. - Q3 CHECK THE AMBIENT LIGHTING LED RETURN CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect: HVAC Module C228C.
Does the meter indicate the circuit is good?
Yes GO to Q4. No REPAIR the circuit. - Q4 CHECK THE AMBIENT LIGHTING GROUND CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
- Disconnect: Negative Battery Cable.
- Measure:
Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead C228C-8 Ground
Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
Yes GO to Q6. No REPAIR the circuit. - Q5 CHECK THE FRONT DOOR AMBIENT LIGHTING LED GROUND CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
- Disconnect: For the LH front door ambient lighting, LH front door LED C573.
- Disconnect: For the RH front door ambient lighting, LH front door LED C649.
- For the LH front door ambient lighting, measure:
Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead C573-4 Ground
- For the RH front door ambient lighting, measure:
Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead C649-4 Ground
Is the resistance less than 5 ohms?
Yes REPAIR or INSTALL a new ambient lighting harness as necessary. No REPAIR the circuit. - Q6 CHECK FOR CORRECT HVAC MODULE OPERATION
- Disconnect the HVAC connectors.
- Repair:
- corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
- corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
- pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary
- Reconnect the HVAC connectors and make sure they seat and latch correctly.
- Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.
Is the concern still present?
Yes CHECK OASIS for any applicable TSBs. If a TSB exists for this concern, discontinue this test and follow TSB instructions. If no TSBs address this concern, INSTALL a new HVAC. REFER to Climate Control DATC . No The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues. CLEAR the DTCs.
