Pinpoint Test I : Pressure Control Solenoid A: Notes

Diagnostic Overview 

Diagnostics in this article assume a certain skill level and knowledge of Ford-specific diagnostic practices. Refer to Diagnostic Methods in Service Information for information about these practices.

Refer to Transmission Controls - 6F50/6F55 for schematic and connector information.

Normal Operation and Fault Conditions 

The PCA (LPC) solenoid is a VFS. The PCA is an electro-hydraulic actuator combining a solenoid and a regulating valve. It supplies the pressure which regulates transmission line pressure. This is done by producing resisting forces to the main regulator and line modulator circuits. These 2 pressures control clutch application pressures.

DTC Fault Trigger Conditions 

DTC  Description  Fault Trigger Conditions 
P0748 Pressure Control Solenoid "A" Electrical PCA electrical circuit general fault. May set along with P0960, P0962 and P0963.
P0960 Pressure Control Solenoid "A" Control Circuit/Open Open circuit in solenoid or solenoid circuitry.
P0961 Pressure Control Solenoid "A" Control Circuit Range/Performance Intermittent short to ground in solenoid or solenoid circuitry.
P0962 Pressure Control Solenoid "A" Control Circuit Low Short to ground in solenoid or solenoid circuitry.
P0963 Pressure Control Solenoid "A" Control Circuit High Short to power in solenoid circuitry.
