Pinpoint Test L : Output Shaft Speed Sensor: Notes
Diagnostic Overview
Diagnostics in this article assume a certain skill level and knowledge of Ford-specific diagnostic practices. Refer to Diagnostic Methods in Service Information for information about these practices.
Refer to Transmission Controls - 6F50/6F55 for schematic and connector information.
Normal Operation and Fault Conditions
The OSS sensor is a Hall-effect sensor that sends a signal to the PCM that indicates transmission output shaft speed. The OSS sensor is used for TCC control and shift scheduling.
DTC Fault Trigger Conditions
| DTC | Description | Fault Trigger Conditions |
|---|---|---|
| P0720 | Output Shaft Speed Sensor Circuit | No input from OSS sensor. |
| P0721 | Output Shaft Speed Sensor Circuit Range/Performance | Unrealistic change in OSS sensor signal, erratic or intermittently no input. |
| P0722 | Output Shaft Speed Sensor Circuit No Signal | No input from OSS sensor. |
