Diagnostic Overview
Diagnostics in this article assume a certain skill level and knowledge of Ford-specific diagnostic practices. Refer to Diagnostic Methods in Service Information for information about these practices.

Normal Operation and Fault Conditions
The TCM applies and releases the various clutches in the transmission by actuating the shift solenoids in the solenoid body. SSD is a VFS.
DTC Fault Trigger Conditions

| P0765 | Shift Solenoid "D" | Open circuit in the solenoid or wire harness. |
| P0768 | Shift Solenoid "D" Electrical | Open circuit in the solenoid or wire harness. |
| P0769 | Shift Solenoid "D" Intermittent | Intermittent circuit in the solenoid or wire harness open, shorted to ground or shorted to power. |
| P0982 | Shift Solenoid "D" Control Circuit Low | Short to ground in the solenoid or wire harness. |
| P0983 | Shift Solenoid "D" Control Circuit High | Open circuit or short to power in the solenoid or wire harness. |

- Connectors damaged or pushed-out terminals, corrosion, loose wires and missing or damaged seals
