Diagnostic Overview 

Diagnostics in this article assume a certain skill level and knowledge of Ford-specific diagnostic practices. Refer to Diagnostic Methods in Service Information for information about these practices.

Refer to Transmission Controls-6F35 for schematic and connector information.

Normal Operation and Fault Conditions 

The OSS sensor is a Hall-effect sensor that sends a signal to the PCM that indicates transmission output shaft speed. The OSS sensor is used for TCC control and shift scheduling.

DTC Fault Trigger Conditions 

DTC  Description  Fault Trigger Conditions 
P0720 Output Shaft Speed Sensor Circuit No input from OSS sensor.
P0721 Output Shaft Speed Sensor Circuit Range/Performance Unrealistic change in OSS sensor signal, erratic or intermittently no input.
P0722 Output Shaft Speed Sensor Circuit No Signal No input from OSS sensor.
