Steering Gear Boot: Installation

  1. Apply the specified grease to the steering gear-to-boot mating surface and boot groove of the inner tie rod.

  2. Using boot clamp pliers. Install the new steering gear boot and new clamps.

  3. Thread the tie rod end jam nut onto the tie rod.

    4. NOTE:

    If equipped  .

  4. Install the underbody shield and the retainers.

  5. Install the underbody air duct and the retainers.

    6. NOTE:

  6. Install the skid plate and the retainers.

  7. Install the tie-rod end.

    1. Attach the outer tie rod end to the wheel knuckle.
    2. Install the new outer tie rod end nut.
      • Tighten to 150 N.m (111 lb-ft).
    3. Tighten the tie rod end jam nut.
      • Tighten to 63 N.m (46 lb ft).
