Pinpoint Test Al : U0253:00

  1. WARNING: Do not handle, move or change the original horizontal mounting position of the restraints control module (RCM) while the RCM is connected and the ignition switch is ON. Failure to follow this instruction may result in the accidental deployment of the Safety Canopy and cause serious personal injury or death.
  2. NOTE: Most faults are due to connector and/or wiring concerns. Carry out a thorough inspection and verification before proceeding with the pinpoint test.
  3. NOTE: SRS components should only be disconnected or reconnected when instructed to do so within a pinpoint test step. Failure to follow this instruction may result in incorrect diagnosis of the SRS.
  4. NOTE: Always make sure the correct SRS component is being installed. Parts released for other vehicles may not be compatible even if they appear physically similar. Check the part number listed in Ford Catalog Advantage™ or equivalent to make sure the correct component is being installed. If an incorrect SRS component is installed, DTCs may set.
  5. NOTE: The SRS must be fully operational and free of faults before releasing the vehicle to the customer.

  6. AL1 CHECK THE COMMUNICATION NETWORK

    • Ignition ON.
    • Using a scan tool, carry out the network test.

    Does the APIM pass the network test? 

    Yes  GO to  AL2.
    No  Go to Pinpoint Test S to diagnose no communication with the APIM.

  7. AL2 CHECK THE RCM CMDTCs

    • Ignition ON.
    • Using a scan tool, perform RCM self-test to retrieve DTCs.
    • Clear the DTCs.
    • Wait 10 seconds.
    • Repeat the RCM self-test.

    Is DTC U0253:00 retrieved again? 

    Yes  GO to  AL3.
    No  The system is operating correctly at this time. The DTC may have been set due to high network traffic or an intermittent fault condition.

  8. AL3 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM THE RCM SELF-TEST

    • Check for recorded DTCs from the RCM self-test.

    Is DTC U3003:16 or U3003:17 recorded? 

    Yes  GO to Pinpoint Test Y .
    No  GO to  AL4.

  9. AL4 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM THE APIM SELF-TEST

    • Check for recorded DTCs from the APIM self-test.

    Is DTC U3003:16 or U3003:17 recorded? 

    Yes  For vehicles with DTC U3003:16 that are equipped with Premium Plus audio, Go to Pinpoint Test W . For vehicles with DTC U3003:17 that are equipped with Premium Plus audio, Go to Pinpoint Test X . For vehicles with DTC U3003:16 that are equipped with Sony® Sound audio, Go to Pinpoint Test W . For vehicles with DTC U3003:17 that are equipped with Sony® Sound audio, Go to Pinpoint Test X .
    No  GO to  AL5.

  10. AL5 CHECK FOR DTC U0253:00 SET IN OTHER MODULES

    • Ignition ON.
    • Using the scan tool, perform the self-test for all modules.
    • Retrieve the CMDTCs from all modules.

    Is DTC U0253:00 set in the IPC or the ACM ? 

    Yes  CHECK OASIS for any applicable TSBs. If a TSB exists for this concern, discontinue this test and follow TSB instructions. If no TSBs address this concern, INSTALL a new APIM. For vehicles equipped with Premium Plus audio, REFER to Information and Entertainment Systems - Premium Plus . For vehicles equipped with Sony® Sound audio, REFER to Information and Entertainment Systems - Sony® Sound .
    No  CHECK OASIS for any applicable TSBs. If a TSB exists for this concern, discontinue this test and follow TSB instructions. If no TSBs address this concern, INSTALL a new RCM. REFER to Restraints Control Module (RCM) .
