PINPOINT TEST D : An Individual Or Group Of Flashing LEDs Do Not Synchronize Correctly Or Display An Incorrect Pattern

  1. D1 CHECK THE FLASHING LIGHT-EMITTING DIODES (LEDs)

    • Ignition ON.
    • Activate and observe all the flashing LEDs.

    Does the suspect flashing LED or LEDs display the same pattern as the others in the group? 

    Yes  For front park or turn or warn LEDs, GO to Pinpoint Test E . For the grille flashing LEDs, GO to  D3. For the front corner and tail lamp flashing LEDs, GO to  D6. For the high mount and liftgate flashing LEDs, GO to  D9.
    No  For front park or turn or warn LEDs, GO to Pinpoint Test E . For all others, GO to  D2.
  2. D2 CHANGE THE FLASHING LIGHT-EMITTING DIODE (LED) PATTERN

    • Activate and observe all the flashing LEDs.
    • For less than 1 second, connect a fused jumper wire:

    Did the suspect flashing LED or LEDs change pattern? 

    Yes  SET the pattern on the suspect flashing LED or LEDs. REFER to LED Flash Pattern Programming .
    No  REPAIR the pattern circuit.
  3. D3 CHECK THE GRILLE FLASHING LIGHT-EMITTING DIODE (LED) SYNCHRONIZATION CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE

    • Ignition OFF.
    • Disconnect: LH and RH Grille Flashing LEDs.
    • Ignition ON.
    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

      Ground

    Is any voltage present? 

    Yes  REPAIR the circuit.
    No  GO to  D4.
  4. D4 CHECK THE GRILLE FLASHING LIGHT-EMITTING DIODE (LED) SYNCHRONIZATION CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND

    • Ignition OFF.
    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

      Ground

    Is the resistance greater than 10, 000 ohms? 

    Yes  GO to  D5.
    No  REPAIR the circuit.
  5. D5 CHECK THE GRILLE FLASHING LIGHT-EMITTING DIODE (LED) SYNCHRONIZATION CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN

    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    Is the resistance less than 3 ohms? 

    Yes  INSTALL a new LH grille flashing LED. REFER to Grille Flashing LED . TEST the system for normal operation. If the concern is still present, INSTALL a new RH grille flashing LED. REFER to Grille Flashing LED .
    No  REPAIR the circuit.
  6. D6 CHECK THE FRONT CORNER AND TAIL LAMP FLASHING LIGHT-EMITTING DIODE (LED) SYNCHRONIZATION CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE

    • Ignition OFF.
    • Disconnect: LH and RH Front Corner Flashing LEDs.
    • Disconnect: LH and RH Tail Lamp Flashing LEDs.
    • Ignition ON.
    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

      Ground

    Is any voltage present? 

    Yes  REPAIR the circuit.
    No  GO to  D7.
  7. D7 CHECK THE FRONT CORNER AND TAIL LAMP FLASHING LIGHT-EMITTING DIODE (LED) SYNCHRONIZATION CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND

    • Ignition OFF.
    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

      Ground

    Is the resistance greater than 10, 000 ohms? 

    Yes  GO to  D8.
    No  REPAIR the circuit.
  8. D8 CHECK THE FRONT CORNER AND TAIL LAMP FLASHING LIGHT-EMITTING DIODE (LED) SYNCHRONIZATION CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN

    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead
      For inoperative LH or RH Front Corner C1705-3

    Is the resistance less than 3 ohms? 

    Yes  INSTALL a new flashing LED for the suspect flashing LED.
    No  REPAIR the circuit.
  9. D9 CHECK THE HIGH MOUNT AND LIFTGATE FLASHING LIGHT-EMITTING DIODE (LED) SYNCHRONIZATION CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE

    • Ignition OFF.
    • Disconnect: LH and RH High Mount Flashing LEDs.
    • Disconnect: LH and RH Liftgate Flashing LEDs.
    • Ignition ON.
    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

      Ground

    Is any voltage present? 

    Yes  REPAIR the circuit.
    No  GO to  D10.
  10. D10 CHECK THE HIGH MOUNT AND LIFTGATE FLASHING LIGHT-EMITTING DIODE (LED) SYNCHRONIZATION CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND

    • Ignition OFF.
    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

      Ground

    Is the resistance greater than 10, 000 ohms? 

    Yes  GO to  D11.
    No  REPAIR the circuit.
  11. D11 CHECK THE HIGH MOUNT AND LIFTGATE FLASHING LIGHT-EMITTING DIODE (LED) SYNCHRONIZATION CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN

    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    Is the resistance less than 3 ohms? 

    Yes  INSTALL a new flashing LED for the suspect flashing LED. REFER to High Mount Flashing LED  or REFER to Liftgate Flashing LED .
    No  REPAIR the circuit.
