Crankshaft Rear Seal with Retainer Plate: Installation

- 1.
Apply a 3 mm (0.118 in) bead of silicone gasket and sealant to the oil pan surface and a 5 mm (0.196 in) bead at the T-joints.
NOTE:
If the crankshaft rear seal is not secured within 10 minutes of sealant application, the sealant must be removed and the sealing area cleaned. Failure to follow this procedure can cause future oil leakage.

Install the crankshaft rear seal.- 1.
Install the crankshaft rear main oil seal installer 303-328.
- 2.
Install the crankshaft rear seal retainer at an angle above the oil pan flange to avoid scraping off the sealer.
- 3.
Tilt the seal retainer up and onto the rear of the cylinder block.

Install the bolts and tighten in sequence shown.- Tighten to 10 Nm (89 lb-in).
- Remove the crankshaft rear main oil seal installer.
- 5.
Remove the drain plug and drain the engine oil.- Install the drain plug and tighten to 27 Nm (20 lb-ft).
- 7.
Install a new engine oil filter.- Tighten to 8 Nm (71 lb-in) plus an additional 180 degrees.
NOTE:
Lubricate the engine oil filter gasket with clean engine oil prior to installing the oil filter.

Install the flexplate. Refer to Flexplate .
