PINPOINT TEST AJ : The Air Conditioning Operation is Erratic

  1. AJ1 CHECK THE ENGINE COOLING FAN (HFC) and (LFC) PCM PID OPERATION

    NOTE: Restriction of air flow through the radiator or A/C condenser can cause erratic operation. Inspect and correct the radiator or A/C condenser for an external obstruction such as leaves or cardboard.
    • Ignition ON.
    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, view PCM PIDs.
    • Monitor the PCM PIDs HFC and LFC.
    • Command the PIDs HFC and LFC to drive the cooling fans from 0 to 100% of performance and confirm the fans increase speed as the percentage of performance commanded is increased.

    Do the fans speed increase as the commanded performance is increased? 

    Yes  Refer to Refrigerant System Tests  to DIAGNOSE the A/C system.
    No  Install a new cooling fan REFER to Engine Cooling - 2.0L GTDI, REFER to Engine Cooling - 3.5L GTDI or REFER to Engine Cooling - 3.5L Ti-VCT.
