Intake Air Distribution and Filtering - 2.0L GTDI, 3.5L GTDI: Overview

The air intake system cleans intake air with a replaceable, dry-type engine ACL element made of treated, pleated paper. A new ACL element must be installed periodically as scheduled. Engine performance and fuel economy are adversely affected when maximum restriction of the ACL element is reached.

The CAC subsystem cools and increases the density of the compressed turbocharged air.

The air intake system measures airflow and air temperature with the MAF sensor.

The ACL and the CAC systems consist of the following components:

Component Location
ACL cover Mounted on the ACL tray assembly with the MAF sensor mounted in the ACL cover
ACL element Mounted inside the ACL tray assembly
ACL outlet pipe Mounted between the ACL cover and the turbocharger inlet pipe
ACL tray assembly Mounted to the ACL tray assembly support bracket
ACL tray assembly support bracket Mounted to body reinforcement rail in the LF of the engine compartment
CAC Mounted on the front of the radiator assembly
CAC tubes Tubes connecting the turbocharger to the CAC and the CAC to the intake manifold TB
