PINPOINT TEST A : The Audible Parking Aid Is Inoperative

  1. A1 CHECK THE DTCs FROM THE PAM SELF-TEST

    • Ignition ON.
    • Using a scan tool, perform the PAM self-test.
    • Check the PAM DTCs from the self-test.

    Are any PAM DTCs recorded? 

    Yes  Refer to Parking Aid .
    No  GO to  A2.
  2. A2 CHECK THE MESSAGE CENTER FOR CORRECT OPERATION

    • While observing the message center, disable and enable the parking aid system.

    Does the message center display PARK AID OFF when the parking aid system is disabled, and display PARK AID ON when the parking aid system is enabled? 

    Yes  GO to  A3.
    No  REFER to Instrumentation, Message Center, and Warning Chimes , Symptom Chart: Message Center.
  3. A3 CHECK FOR CORRECT REVERSE GEAR INPUT

    • Apply the parking brake.
    • Select REVERSE.
    • Using a scan tool, view PAM PIDs.
    • Monitor the PAM TRANSGR PID.

    Does the PID indicate YES (transmission in reverse)? 

    Yes  GO to  A4.
    No  REFER to Automatic Transmission 6F50/6F55 .
  4. A4 CHECK PARKING AID SENSORS FOR CORRECT INSTALLATION

    • Select PARK.
    • Inspect the parking aid sensors for correct installation. Make sure the isolator rings are not rolled between the sensor and the bezel.

    Are the parking aid sensors correctly installed? 

    Yes  GO to  A5.
    No  REMOVE and correctly INSTALL the parking aid sensor(s) in question.
  5. A5 CHECK PARKING AID SENSOR ISOLATOR RINGS

    • Inspect the parking aid sensor isolator rings for deformation and damage.

    Are the parking aid sensor isolator rings OK? 

    Yes  GO to  A6.
    No  INSTALL a new parking aid sensor or isolator ring as necessary. Refer to Parking Aid Sensor .
  6. A6 CHECK THE PAM SPEAKER OUTPUT

    • Apply the parking brake.
    • Select PARK.
    • Using a scan tool, view PAM PIDs.
    • Using a scan tool, command the PAM REAR_TONE PID Active and then Inactive.

    Does the PAM speaker sound when Active? 

    Yes  GO to  A7.
    No  INSTALL a new PAM speaker. PAM. TEST the system for normal operation. If the concern still exists, GO to  A7.
  7. A7 CHECK FOR CORRECT PAM OPERATION

    • Ignition OFF.
    • Disconnect and inspect the PAM connector.
    • Repair:
      • corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
      • damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins
      • pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary
    • Reconnect the PAM connector. Make sure it seats and latches correctly.
    • Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.

    Is the concern still present? 

    Yes  CHECK OASIS for any applicable TSBs. If a TSB exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW TSB instructions. If no TSBs address this concern, INSTALL a new PAM. Refer to Parking Aid Module (PAM) .
    No  The system is operating correctly at this time. Concern may have been caused by module connections. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
