The following videos in this document can be utilized as a tutorial whenever the diagnostic tests in the Workshop Manual (WSM) or Powertrain Control/Emissions Diagnosis (PC/ED) Manual recommend completing the powertrain control module (PCM) ignition coil driver test or the driver on coil ignition test.
SERVICE INFORMATION
This video describes the steps required for completing the PCM ignition coil driver test for vehicles with 2-wire ignition coils using the IDS.
2-wire
This video describes the steps required for completing the ignition test for 3-wire driver on coil ignition systems.
3-wire
These tests can also be performed using the VCMM and VMS software. To access these tests open the VMS software, select Oscilloscope, then select Preconfigured Tests from the taskbar at the top of the screen. The Driver On Coil Test should be used for 3-wire coils and the PCM Ignition Coil Driver Test used for 2-wire coils. Reference waveforms for each test can be found below the Configure Channel menu on the right side of the screen.
