PINPOINT TEST AF : No I-CAN Communication, All Modules Are Not Responding

  1. AF1 CHECK THE I-CAN TERMINATION RESISTANCE

    • Disconnect: negative battery cable.
    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    Is the resistance between 54 and 66 ohms? 

    Yes  GO to  AF2.
    No  GO to  AF4.
  2. AF2 CHECK THE I-CAN (+) AND I-CAN (-) CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO GROUND

    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    Are the resistances greater than 1, 000 ohms? 

    Yes  GO to  AF3.
    No  GO to  AF11.
  3. AF3 CHECK THE I-CAN (+) AND I-CAN (-) CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE

    • Connect: negative battery cable.
    • Ignition ON.
    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    Are the voltages greater than 6 volts? 

    Yes  REPAIR the circuit in question.
    No  GO to  AF12.
  4. AF4 CHECK THE I-CAN TERMINATION RESISTOR

    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    Is the resistance between 108 and 132 ohms? 

    Yes  GO to  AF5.
    No  GO to  AF8.
  5. AF5 CHECK THE I-CAN TERMINATION RESISTOR WITH THE IPC DISCONNECTED

    • Disconnect: IPC.
    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    Is the resistance between 108 and 132 ohms? 

    Yes  GO to  AF6.
    No  GO to  AF7.
  6. AF6 CHECK THE I-CAN CIRCUITS BETWEEN THE IPC AND THE DLC FOR AN OPEN

    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    Are the resistances less than 3 ohms? 

    Yes  GO to  AF22.
    No  REPAIR the circuit in question.
  7. AF7 CHECK THE I-CAN CIRCUITS BETWEEN THE ACM AND THE DLC FOR AN OPEN

    • Disconnect: ACM C240A.
    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    Are the resistances less than 3 ohms? 

    Yes  GO to  AF19.
    No  REPAIR the circuit in question.
  8. AF8 CHECK THE I-CAN (+) AND I-CAN (-) CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TOGETHER

    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    Is the resistance less than 3 ohms? 

    Yes  GO to  AF10.
    No  GO to  AF9.
  9. AF9 CHECK THE I-CAN CIRCUITS BETWEEN THE IPC AND THE DLC FOR AN OPEN

    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    Is the resistance greater than 10, 000 ohms? 

    Yes  REPAIR the DLC or REPAIR the circuit in question.
    No  A capacitor internal to a module may still be draining, causing irregular resistance readings. WAIT 5 minutes. REPEAT the pinpoint test. If concern is still present, REPAIR the circuit.
  10. AF10 CHECK THE I-CAN (+) AND I-CAN (-) CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TOGETHER

    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    • Disconnect modules, one at a time until the resistance is greater than 5 ohms:
      • APIM (if equipped)
      • Audio DSP module C3154A (if equipped)
      • ACM C240A
      • FCIM
      • FCDIM (if equipped)
      • IPC

    Did the resistance change to greater than 5 ohms with one of the modules disconnected? 

    Yes  For the APIM, GO to  AF17. For the audio DSP module, GO to  AF18. For the ACM, GO to  AF19. For the FCIM, GO to  AF20. For the FCDIM, GO to  AF21. For the IPC, GO to  AF22.
    No  REPAIR the circuit in question. CONNECT all modules.
  11. AF11 CHECK THE I-CAN (+) AND I-CAN (-) CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO GROUND WITH THE MODULES DISCONNECTED

    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    • Disconnect modules, one at a time until the resistance to ground is greater than 1, 000 ohms:
      • APIM (if equipped)
      • Audio DSP module C3154A (if equipped)
      • ACM C240A
      • FCIM
      • FCDIM (if equipped)
      • IPC

    Are the resistances greater than 1, 000 ohms? 

    Yes  For the APIM, GO to  AF17. For the audio DSP module, GO to  AF18. For the ACM, GO to  AF19. For the FCIM, GO to  AF20. For the FCDIM, GO to  AF21. For the IPC, GO to  AF22.
    No  REPAIR the circuit in question. CONNECT all modules.
  12. NOTE: When re-running the network test, close the network test application first or the screen display reverts back to the prior run network test results.

  13. AF12 CHECK FOR RESTORED COMMUNICATION WITH THE FCIM AND THE FCDIM DISABLED
    • Disconnect: BCM Fuse 9 (10A).
    • Using a scan tool, perform network test.
    • Repeat the network test.

    Do all other I-CAN modules pass the network test? 

    Yes  CONNECT all modules. If the vehicle is equipped with a FCDIM, GO to  AF13. If the vehicle is not equipped with a FCDIM, GO to Pinpoint Test Y .
    No  If the vehicle is equipped with Sony ® sound, GO to  AF14. If the vehicle is not equipped with Sony ® sound, GO to  AF15.
  14. NOTE: When re-running the network test, close the network test application first or the screen display reverts back to the prior run network test results.

  15. AF13 CHECK FOR RESTORED COMMUNICATION WITH THE FCDIM DISCONNECTED
    • Disconnect: FCDIM (if equipped).
    • Using a scan tool, perform network test.

    Do all other I-CAN modules pass the network test? 

    Yes  CONNECT all modules.GO to Pinpoint Test D .
    No  CONNECT all modules.GO to Pinpoint Test Y .
  16. NOTE: When re-running the network test, close the network test application first or the screen display reverts back to the prior run network test results.

  17. AF14 CHECK FOR RESTORED NETWORK COMMUNICATION WITH THE AUDIO DSP MODULE DISABLED
    • Disconnect: BCM Fuse 5 (20A).
    • Using a scan tool, perform network test.
    • Repeat the network test.

    Do all other modules pass the network test? 

    Yes  INSTALL the removed fuse. GO to Pinpoint Test L .
    No  GO to  AF15.
  18. NOTE: When re-running the network test, close the network test application first or the screen display reverts back to the prior run network test results.

  19. AF15 CHECK FOR RESTORED COMMUNICATION WITH THE APIM AND ACM DISABLED
    • Disconnect: BCM Fuse 29 (20A).
    • Using a scan tool, perform network test.
    • Repeat the network test.

    Do all other I-CAN modules pass the network test? 

    Yes  CONNECT all modules. If the vehicle is equipped with a APIM, GO to  AF16. If the vehicle is not equipped with a APIM, GO to Pinpoint Test K .
    No  CONNECT all modules. The I-CAN tests within specification. VERIFY the correct operation of the scan tool on a known good vehicle.
  20. NOTE: When re-running the network test, close the network test application first or the screen display reverts back to the prior run network test results.

  21. AF16 CHECK FOR RESTORED COMMUNICATION WITH THE APIM DISCONNECTED
    • Disconnect: APIM.
    • Using a scan tool, perform network test.

    Do all other I-CAN modules pass the network test? 

    Yes  CONNECT all modules.GO to Pinpoint Test S .
    No  CONNECT all modules.GO to Pinpoint Test K .
  22. AF17 CHECK THE APIM FOR CORRECT OPERATION

    • Ignition OFF.
    • Disconnect and inspect the APIM connector and related in-line connectors.
    • Repair:
      • corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
      • damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins
      • pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary
    • Reconnect the APIM connector and related in-line connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.
    • Operate the system and determine the concern is still present.

    Is the concern still present? 

    Yes  CHECK OASIS for any applicable TSBs. If a TSB exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW TSB instructions. If no TSBs address this concern, Refer to APIM HARDWARE TESTING .
    No  The system is operating correctly at this time. Concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
  23. AF18 CHECK THE AUDIO DSP MODULE FOR CORRECT OPERATION

    • Ignition OFF.
    • Disconnect and inspect the audio DSP module connectors and related in-line connectors.
    • Repair:
      • corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
      • damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins
      • pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary
    • Reconnect the audio DSP module connectors and related in-line connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.
    • Operate the system and determine the concern is still present.

    Is the concern still present? 

    Yes  CHECK OASIS for any applicable TSBs. If a TSB exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW TSB instructions. If no TSBs address this concern, INSTALL a new Audio DSP module. REFER to Information and Entertainment Systems Sony Sound .
    No  The system is operating correctly at this time. Concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
  24. AF19 CHECK THE ACM FOR CORRECT OPERATION

    • Ignition OFF.
    • Disconnect and inspect the ACM connectors and related in-line connectors.
    • Repair:
      • corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
      • damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins
      • pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary
    • Reconnect the ACM connectors and related in-line connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.
    • Operate the system and determine the concern is still present.

    Is the concern still present? 

    Yes  CHECK OASIS for any applicable TSBs. If a TSB exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW TSB instructions. If no TSBs address this concern, INSTALL a new ACM. REFER to Information and Entertainment Systems Premium (Premium), REFER to Information and Entertainment Systems Premium Plus (Premium Plus) or REFER to Information and Entertainment Systems Sony Sound (Sony ® Sound).
    No  The system is operating correctly at this time. Concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
  25. AF20 CHECK THE FCIM FOR CORRECT OPERATION

    • Ignition OFF.
    • Disconnect and inspect the FCIM connector and related in-line connectors.
    • Repair:
      • corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
      • damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins
      • pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary
    • Reconnect the FCIM connector and related in-line connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.
    • Operate the system and determine the concern is still present.

    Is the concern still present? 

    Yes  CHECK OASIS for any applicable TSBs. If a TSB exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW TSB instructions. If no TSBs address this concern, INSTALL a new FCIM. REFER to Information and Entertainment Systems Premium (Premium), REFER to Information and Entertainment Systems Premium Plus (Premium Plus) or REFER to Information and Entertainment Systems Sony Sound (Sony ® Sound).
    No  The system is operating correctly at this time. Concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
  26. AF21 CHECK THE FCDIM FOR CORRECT OPERATION

    • Ignition OFF.
    • Disconnect and inspect the FCDIM connector and related in-line connectors.
    • Repair:
      • corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
      • damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins
      • pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary
    • Reconnect the FCDIM connector and related in-line connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.
    • Operate the system and determine the concern is still present.

    Is the concern still present? 

    Yes  CHECK OASIS for any applicable TSBs. If a TSB exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW TSB instructions. If no TSBs address this concern, INSTALL a new FCDIM. REFER to Information and Entertainment Systems Premium .
    No  The system is operating correctly at this time. Concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
  27. AF22 CHECK THE IPC FOR CORRECT OPERATION

    • Ignition OFF.
    • Disconnect and inspect the IPC connector and related in-line connectors.
    • Repair:
      • corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
      • damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins
      • pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary
    • Reconnect the IPC connector and related in-line connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.
    • Operate the system and determine the concern is still present.

    Is the concern still present? 

    Yes  CHECK OASIS for any applicable TSBs. If a TSB exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW TSB instructions. If no TSBs address this concern, refer to IPC HARDWARE TESTING .
    No  The system is operating correctly at this time. Concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
