PINPOINT TEST A : The Power Release Seat is Inoperative, Does Not Operate Correctly

NOTE: Make sure the second row power release seats will manually release and latch before troubleshooting the electrical system.

  1. A1 CHECK MANUAL RELEASE OPERATION OF THE SEAT

    • Pull the release strap of the affected seat and check the manual release operation.

    Does the seat release manually? 

    Yes  GO to  A2.
    No  DISASSEMBLE the seat as necessary to CHECK the cables and cable mounting for disconnection. CHECK latch release mechanism and latch feet for binding or damage. REPAIR as needed. TEST the system for normal operation.
  2. A2 CHECK THE INTERIOR DEMAND LIGHTING/BATTERY SAVER OPERATION

    • Open any of the vehicle doors and check the interior courtesy lamp operation.

    Do the interior lamps illuminate when a door is opened? 

    Yes  GO to  A3.
    No  REFER to Interior Lighting , Symptom Chart to diagnose the inoperative demand lighting/battery saver concern.
  3. A3 CHECK FOR VOLTAGE TO THE POWER-RELEASE SEAT MOTOR

    • Disconnect: Suspect LH or RH Power Release Seat Motor.
    • For LH, measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    • For RH, measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    Is the voltage greater than 11 volts? 

    Yes  GO to  A4.
    No  VERIFY BJB fuse 61 (20A) is OK. If OK, REPAIR the circuit. If not OK, REFER to the OEM ELECTRICAL WIRING DIAGRAM INTRODUCTION to identify the possible causes of the circuit short.
  4. A4 CHECK THE SUSPECT POWER RELEASE SEAT MOTOR GROUND CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN

    • For LH, measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    • For RH, measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    Is the resistance less than 3 ohms? 

    Yes  GO to  A5.
    No  REPAIR the circuit.
  5. NOTE: If the demand lighting/battery saver system has timed out, close and re-open any of the vehicle doors to activate the system before measuring the voltage.

  6. A5 CHECK THE SEAT CONTROL SWITCH OUTPUT
    • For LH, press and release the seat control switch while measuring:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    • For RH, press and release the seat control switch while measuring:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    Is the voltage greater than 11 volts when the switch is pressed; and 0 volt when released? 

    Yes  INSTALL a new LH or RH power release seat motor. Refer to Power Release Seat Motor .
    No  If voltage was less than 11 volts when the switch was pressed, GO to  A6. If voltage was greater than 0 volt when the switch was released, GO to  A8.
  7. A6 CHECK THE SEAT CONTROL SWITCH FOR VOLTAGE

      NOTE: If the demand lighting/battery saver system has timed out, close and re-open any of the vehicle doors to activate the system before measuring the voltage.
    • Disconnect: Suspect LH Seat Control Switch C3343 or RH Seat Control Switch C3344.
    • For LH, measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    • For RH, measure:

    Is the voltage greater than 11 volts? 

    Yes  GO to  A7.
    No  VERIFY BCM fuse 4 (10A) is OK. If OK, REPAIR the circuit. If not OK, REFER to the OEM ELECTRICAL WIRING DIAGRAM INTRODUCTION to identify the possible causes of the circuit short.
  8. A7 CHECK THE SEAT CONTROL SWITCH CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN

    • Ignition OFF.
    • For LH seat, measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    • For RH seat, measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    Is the resistance less than 3 ohms? 

    Yes  INSTALL a new LH or RH seat control switch. Refer to Seat Control Switch .
    No  REPAIR the affected circuit.
  9. A8 CHECK THE SUSPECT SEAT CONTROL SWITCH CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE

    • Disconnect: Suspect LH Seat Control Switch C3343 or RH Seat Control Switch C3344.
    • For LH, measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    • For RH, measure:

    Is any voltage present? 

    Yes  REPAIR the affected circuit.
    No  INSTALL a new LH or RH seat control switch. Refer to Seat Control Switch .
