Pinpoint Test AE : DTC U016A:00

  1. AE1 VERIFY THE CUSTOMER CONCERN

    • Ignition ON.
    • Verify that there is an observable symptom present.

    Is an observable symptom present? 

    Yes  GO to  AE2.
    No  The system is operating correctly at this time. The DTC may have been set due to an intermittent fault in the network wiring. CHECK the MS-CAN wiring between the APIM and the GPSM for a fault.
  2. AE2 CHECK THE COMMUNICATION NETWORK

    • Ignition ON.
    • Carry out the network test using the scan tool.

    Does the GPSM pass the network test? 

    Yes  GO to  AE3.
    No  REFER to Module Communications Network .
  3. NOTE: If new modules were installed prior to the DTC being set, the module configuration may be incorrectly set during Programmable Module Installation (PMI) or the PMI may not have been carried out.

  4. AE3 CHECK FOR ANY RECENT PMI CHANGES
    • Check the vehicle service history for recent service actions related to the GPSM.

    Have there been any recent service actions with either module? 

    Yes  CARRY out a manual PMI on the GPSM using As-Built data. REFER to the diagnostic scan tool instructions.
    No  GO to  AE4.
  5. AE4 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM THE GPSM

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, clear the GPSM DTCs.
    • Ignition OFF.
    • Ignition ON.
    • Wait at least 10 seconds.
    • Repeat the GPSM self-test.

    Is DTC U3003:16 or DTC U3003:17 recorded? 

    Yes  REFER to the GPSM DTC chart .
    No  GO to  AE5.
  6. AE5 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM THE APIM

    • Repeat the APIM self-test.

    Is DTC U3003:16 or DTC U3003:17 recorded? 

    Yes  For DTC U3003:16, GO to Pinpoint Test W . For DTC U3003:17, GO to Pinpoint Test X 
    No  GO to  AE6.
  7. AE6 RECHECK THE APIM DTCs

    • Perform the APIM self-test.

    Is DTC U016A:00 still present? 

    Yes  GO to  AE7.
    No  The system is operating correctly at this time. The DTC may have been set due to an intermittent fault in the network wiring.
  8. AE7 CHECK FOR DTC U016A:00 SET IN OTHER MODULES

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, clear all CMDTCs.
    • Ignition OFF.
    • Ignition ON.
    • Wait at least 10 seconds.
    • Repeat the APIM self-test.

    Is DTC U016A:00 set in any other module? 

    Yes  GO to  AE8.
    No  GO to  AE9
  9. AE8 CHECK FOR CORRECT GPSM OPERATION

    • Ignition OFF.
    • Disconnect and inspect the GPSM connector.
    • Repair:
      • Corrosion (clean module pins or install new connectors or terminals)
      • Damaged or bent pins (install new terminals or pins)
      • Pushed-out pins (install new pins as necessary)
    • Reconnect the GPSM connector and make sure it seats correctly.

    Is the concern still present? 

    Yes  INSTALL a new GPSM. REFER to Global Positioning System Module (GPSM) . TEST the system for normal operation.
    No  The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
  10. AE9 CHECK FOR CORRECT APIM OPERATION

    • Ignition OFF.
    • Disconnect and inspect the APIM connector.
    • Repair:
      • Corrosion (clean module pins or install new connectors or terminals)
      • Damaged or bent pins (install new terminals or pins)
      • Pushed-out pins (install new pins as necessary)
    • Reconnect the APIM connector and make sure it seats correctly.
    • Wait 2 minutes for the APIM to re-initialize.

    Is the concern still present? 

    Yes  Refer to APIM HARDWARE TESTING .
    No  The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by a loose or corroded connector.
