Pinpoint Test T : The Media Hub Is Inoperative Or Does Not Operate Correctly

  1. T1 RESET THE APIM

    • Remove any USB devices connected in the media hub.
    • Remove the BCM fuse 9 (10A).
    • Wait 5 minutes.
    • Reinstall the fuse and wait at least 2 minutes for the APIM to re-intialize.
    • Test the system for normal operation.

    Does the system operate correctly? 

    Yes  The cause of the fault was due to a device conflict. The system is operating correctly at this time.
    No  GO to  T2.
  2. T2 CHECK THE USB PORT FUNCTIONALITY

    • Connect: Multi-Media Interface Tester 105-00120.
    • Using the Multi-Media Interface Tester 105-00120, attempt to play an audio file using the USB port.

    Is the audio output OK for the USB port? 

    Yes  GO to  T3.
    No  GO to  T5.
  3. T3 CHECK THE SECURE DIGITAL (SD) CARD SLOT FUNCTIONALITY

    • Using a known good Secure Digital (SD) card, attempt to play an audio file and view images using the Secure Digital (SD) card slot.

    Are the audio and image output OK for the Secure Digital (SD) card slot? 

    Yes  GO to  T4.
    No  INSTALL a new media hub. REFER to Media Hub .
  4. T4 CHECK THE RCA JACK FUNCTIONALITY

    • Using the Multi-Media Interface Tester 105-00120 and RCA Adapter 105-00121, attempt to play audio content using the RCA jacks.

    Is the audio output OK for the RCA jacks? 

    Yes  The media hub is working correctly at this time. INFORM the customer that the concern may be with the media or device being used.
    No  GO to  T9.
  5. T5 CHECK THE MEDIA HUB VOLTAGE SUPPLY

    • Ignition OFF.
    • Disconnect: Media Hub C3618 .
    • Ignition ON.
    • Measure.

    Is the voltage greater than 5 volts? 

    Yes  GO to  T6.
    No  GO to  T7.
  6. T6 ISOLATE THE MEDIA HUB

    • Install a new media hub. REFER to Media Hub .
    • Connect: Multi-Media Interface Tester 105-00120.
    • Using the Multi-Media Interface Tester 105-00120, attempt to play an audio file using the USB port.

    Is the audio output OK for the USB port? 

    Yes  The concern was caused by an inoperative media hub. The system is operating correctly at this time.
    No  INSTALL a new USB cable. Refer to Universal Serial Bus (USB) Cable - Upper  or Universal Serial Bus (USB) Cable - Lower .
  7. T7 CHECK THE MEDIA HUB VOLTAGE SUPPLY CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND

    • Ignition OFF.
    • Disconnect: APIM.
    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

      Ground

    Is the resistance greater than 10, 000 ohms? 

    Yes  GO to  T8.
    No  REPAIR the circuit.
  8. T8 CHECK THE MEDIA HUB VOLTAGE SUPPLY AND GROUND CIRCUITS FOR AN OPEN

    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    Are the resistance less than 3 ohms? 

    Yes  GO to  T12.
    No  REPAIR the circuit in question.
  9. T9 CHECK THE RCA CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE

    • Ignition OFF.
    • Disconnect: Media Hub.
    • Disconnect: APIM.
    • Ignition ON.
    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    Is any voltage present? 

    Yes  REPAIR the circuit in question.
    No  GO to  T10.
  10. T10 CHECK THE RCA CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO GROUND

    • Ignition OFF.
    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    Are the resistances greater than 10, 000 ohms? 

    Yes  GO to  T11.
    No  REPAIR the circuit in question.
  11. T11 CHECK THE RCA CIRCUITS FOR AN OPEN

    Are the resistance less than 3 ohms? 

    Yes  INSTALL a new media hub. REFER to Media Hub .
    No  REPAIR the circuit in question.
  12. T12 CHECK FOR CORRECT APIM OPERATION

    • Ignition OFF.
    • Disconnect and inspect the APIM connector.
    • Repair:
      • Corrosion (clean module pins or install new connectors or terminals)
      • Damaged or bent pins (install new terminals or pins)
      • Pushed-out pins (install new pins as necessary)
    • Reconnect the APIM connector. Make sure it seats and latches correctly.
    • Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.

    Is the concern still present? 

    Yes  CHECK OASIS for any applicable TSBs. If a TSB exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW TSB instructions. If no TSBs address this concern, Refer to APIM HARDWARE TESTING .
    No  The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
