Pinpoint Test X : The Touchscreen Is Inoperative Or Does Not Operate Correctly

  1. X1 OBSERVE THE FDIM SCREEN

    • Turn the infotainment system on and observe the FDIM Screen

    Is the FDIM screen completely inoperative or blank? 

    Yes  GO to  X2.
    No  GO to  X4.
  2. X2 VERIFY THE APIM PASSES THE NETWORK TEST

    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the network test.

    Did the APIM pass the network test? 

    Yes  GO to  X3.
    No  Refer to article 'Module Communications Network', Go to Pinpoint Test S .
  3. X3 CHECK FOR DTC U0162:00 SET IN THE APIM

    • Ignition ON.
    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the APIM self-test.

    Is DTC U0162:00 present? 

    Yes  INSTALL a new FDIM. REFER to Front Display Interface Module (FDIM) .
    No  GO to  X6.
  4. X4 VERIFY THE TOUCHSCREEN RESPONDS TO TOUCH COMMANDS

    • While pressing each tab of the 4 corners on the FDIM, observe the touchscreen operation.

    Does the FDIM respond correctly when each tab is pressed? 

    Yes  VERIFY the customer concern and the steps to reproduce the inoperative state. If the inoperative state is not duplicated, the system is operating correctly at this time. INFORM the customer on the operation of the FDIM display.
    No  GO to  X5.
  5. X5 VERIFY THE TOUCHSCREEN IS CALIBRATED

    • Press and hold the SEEK DOWN button to enter Touch Screen Calibration and follow the on-screen instructions.
    • Once the touchscreen calibration is complete, verify the touchscreen operation.

    Does the FDIM respond correctly? 

    Yes  The inoperative FDIM was due to the touchscreen not being calibrated. The system is operating correctly at this time.
    No  GO to  X6.
  6. X6 CHECK FOR DTC B108E:01 SET IN THE APIM

    • Ignition ON.
    • Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the APIM self-test.

    Is DTC B108E:01 present? 

    Yes  INSTALL a new FDIM. REFER to Front Display Interface Module (FDIM) .
    No  GO to  X7.
  7. X7 RESET THE APIM AND RECHECK THE SYSTEM OPERATION

    • Carry out an APIM power reset by disconnecting the battery for 1 minute, then reconnect it.
    • Turn the infotainment system on.
    • While pressing each tab of the 4 corners on the FDIM, observe the touchscreen operation.

    Does the touchscreen operate correctly? 

    Yes  Performing a Master Reset returns all preference settings to the factory defaults, erases all the phone book and call histories, and deletes any devices paired with the SYNC ® system.  The FDIM is operating correctly at this time. PERFORM a SYNC ® system Master Reset. REFER to the Owner's Literature.
    No  GO to  X8.
  8. X8 CHECK FOR CORRECT APIM OPERATION

    • Ignition OFF.
    • Disconnect and inspect the APIM connector.
    • Repair:
      • Corrosion (clean module pins or install new connectors or terminals)
      • Damaged or bent pins (install new terminals or pins)
      • Pushed-out pins (install new pins as necessary)
    • Reconnect the APIM connector. Make sure it seats and latches correctly.
    • Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.

    Is the concern still present? 

    Yes  CHECK OASIS for any applicable TSBs. If a TSB exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW TSB instructions. If no TSBs address this concern, Refer to APIM HARDWARE TESTING .
    No  The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
