Pinpoint Test Y : Navigation Is Inoperative Or Navigation Application Is Unresponsive
- Y1 DETERMINE IF THE VEHICLE IS EQUIPPED WITH A FACTORY-INSTALLED NAVIGATION SYSTEM
- Ensure that the correct VIN was entered on the technician service publication website.
- Hover the mouse cursor over or click on the OASIS tab toward the top left of the screen.
- Select "HVBoM (Historical Vehicle Bill of Material)."
- Locate the
Limit to Base: text entry box toward the center of the screen.
- Enter the map data SD card base part number "19H449" (do not include quotation marks).
- Press Enter on the keyboard or click on "View BoM (Build of Material)."
- If the vehicle is equipped with a factory-installed navigation system, a row will appear indicating "CARD - MEMORY" in the DESCRIPTION column.
- If the vehicle is not equipped with a factory-installed navigation system, a row will not appear, and the DESCRIPTION column will be blank.
Does the technician service publication website indicate the vehicle is equipped with a factory-installed navigation system?
Yes GO to Y2. No Ford Motor Company does not support the addition of a navigation system to vehicles not equipped with a factory-installed navigation system. - Y2 VERIFY THAT THE APIM PASSES THE NETWORK TEST
- Ignition ON.
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the network test.
Did the APIM pass the network test?
Yes GO to Y3. No Refer to article 'Module Communications Network', Go to Pinpoint Test S . - Y3 CHECK THE USB PORTS FOR POWER OUTPUT
- Connect: MIT 105-00120.
Does the MIT 105-00120 power on from both USB ports?
Yes GO to Y4. No * If the MIT 105-00120 powers on from only one USB port, INSTALL a new media hub. Refer to Media Hub * If the MIT 105-00120 does not power on from either USB port, GO to Pinpoint Test T . - Y4 RESET THE APIM AND VERIFY THE OPERATION OF THE USB CABLE
- Remove any devices connected to the media hub.
- Carry out an APIM power reset by disconnecting the battery for 1 minute, then reconnecting it.
- Wait at least 2 minutes for the APIM to re-initialize.
- Connect: MIT 105-00120.
- With the MIT in USB mode, test the audio output for each USB port.
Is the audio output OK for each USB port?
Yes GO to Y5. No * If the audio output is not OK from one USB port, INSTALL a new media hub. Refer to Media Hub
* If the audio output is not OK from both USB ports, Go to Pinpoint Test T - Y5 CHECK FOR A MAP DATA SD CARD FAULT MESSAGE
- Ignition ON.
- Observe the FDIM display.
Does the FDIM display "Insert Nav SD Card" or "Navigation SD Card Fault?"
Yes GO to Y6. No GO to Y9. - Y6 VERIFY THE MAP DATA SD (SECURE DIGITAL) CARD IS PRESENT
- Check for the presence of a map data SD card in the media hub SD card slot.
Is the map data SD card present and fully seated?
Yes GO to Y7. No INSTALL the map data SD card. TEST the system for normal operation. - Y7 INSPECT THE MAP DATA SD (SECURE DIGITAL) CARD
- Remove the map data SD card.
- Inspect the map data SD card case and pins for damage.
Is any damage present?
Yes INSTALL a new map data SD card. No * If a known good map data SD card is available, GO to Y8.* If a known good map data SD card is not available, GO to Y9 . - Y8 VERIFY NAVIGATION SYSTEM OPERATION WITH KNOWN GOOD MAP DATA SD (SECURE DIGITAL) CARD
- Insert a known good map data SD card with the correct software version level.
- Confirm that the navigation system operates correctly.
Does the navigation system operate correctly with the known good map data SD card?
Yes INSTALL a new map data SD card. No GO to Y9. - Y9 VERIFY THAT THE GPSM PASSES THE NETWORK TEST
- Ignition ON.
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the network test.
Did the GPSM pass the network test?
Yes GO to Y10. No Refer to article 'Module Communications Network', Go to Pinpoint Test S . - Y10 RETRIEVE THE DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODES (DTCS) FROM THE APIM AND GPSM
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the self-test for the following modules:
- APIM
- GPSM
Are any Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs) present in the APIM or GPSM ?
Yes * For APIM Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs), Information and Entertainment System - Premium Plus See DTC Chart: APIM.* For GPSM Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTCs), Information and Entertainment System - Premium Plus See DTC Chart: GPSM. No GO to Y11. - Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform the self-test for the following modules:
- Y11 REPROGRAM THE APIM
- Perform the APIM Standard Programming. Accessory Protocol Interface Module (APIM) Standard Programming
- Override the Service Pack installation and perform a Full Flash/Force CIP.
- Once the APIM programming is complete and the system has re-initialized, confirm that the navigation system operates correctly.
Does the navigation system operate correctly?
Yes The navigation system is operating correctly at this time. The concern was resolved by reprogramming the APIM. No GO to Y12. - Y12 CHECK FOR CORRECT GPSM OPERATION
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect and inspect the GPSM connector.
- Repair:
- Corrosion (clean module pins or install new connectors or terminals)
- Damaged or bent pins (install new terminals or pins)
- Pushed-out pins (install new pins as necessary)
- Reconnect the GPSM connector. Make sure it seats and latches correctly.
- Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.
NOTE: Before operating the system to determine if the concern is still present, ensure that the vehicle is in an open location that is free from obstacles such as tall buildings or large trees so an adequate GPS signal can be obtained.Is the concern still present?
Yes CHECK OASIS for any applicable TSBs. If a TSB exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW TSB instructions. If no TSBs address this concern, INSTALL a new GPSM. REFER to Global Positioning System Module (GPSM) . If the concern is still present, GO to Y13. No The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues. - Y13 CHECK FOR CORRECT APIM OPERATION
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect and inspect the APIM connector.
- Repair:
- Corrosion (clean module pins or install new connectors or terminals)
- Damaged or bent pins (install new terminals or pins)
- Pushed-out pins (install new pins as necessary)
- Reconnect the APIM connector. Make sure it seats and latches correctly.
- Wait 2 minutes for the APIM to re-initialize.
- Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.
Is the concern still present?
Yes CHECK OASIS for any applicable TSBs. If a TSB exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW TSB instructions. If no TSBs address this concern, Refer to APIM HARDWARE TESTING No The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
