PINPOINT TEST I : The Rear Video Is Inoperative

  1. I1 CHECK AND CLEAN THE REAR VIDEO CAMERA LENS

    • Clean and make sure the rear video camera lens is clear of any debris.
    • Test the video camera system and verify the video camera image.

    Is the video camera concern still present? 

    Yes  GO to  I2.
    No  The system is operating correctly. The concern was caused by an obstructed/dirty video camera lens.
  2. I2 CHECK THE REVERSING LAMPS OPERATION

    • Check the operation of the reversing lamps.

    Do the reversing lamps operate correctly? 

    Yes  For non-police vehicles, GO to  I3. For police vehicles, GO to  I4.
    No  REFER to Exterior Lighting , Symptom Chart: Reversing Lamps.
  3. I3 CHECK FOR DTCs FROM THE APIM SELF-TEST

    • Ignition ON.
    • Using a scan tool, perform the APIM self-test.

    Are any DTCs present? 

    Yes  For DTC C1001:01, GO to  I13. For all other DTCs ; REFER to Information and Entertainment Systems Premium Plus , or REFER to Information and Entertainment Systems Sony Sound .
    No  GO to  I4.
  4. I4 CHECK FOR DTCs FROM THE BCM SELF-TEST

    • Using a scan tool, perform the BCM self-test.

    Is DTC B115E:08 present? 

    Yes  GO to  I15.
    No  For an inoperative video camera feature (fixed/active guidelines, manual zoom, visual park alert or video camera delay) concern, GO to  I5. For all other rear video concerns, GO to  I13.
  5. I5 VERIFY VEHICLE EQUIPMENT

    • Check vehicle equipment.

    Is the vehicle equipped with a police package? 

    Yes  GO to  I6.
    No  GO to  I12.
  6. I6 CHECK THE AUTO-DIMMING INTERIOR MIRROR

    • Observe the auto-dimming interior mirror.
    • Select PARK.
    • Select REVERSE.

    Does the auto-dimming interior mirror momentarily display a blue screen then turn off? 

    Yes  The auto-dimming interior mirror is functional. There is no signal from the video camera. GO to  I14.
    No  GO to  I7.
  7. I7 CHECK THE AUTO-DIMMING INTERIOR MIRROR VOLTAGE SUPPLY CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN

    • Ignition OFF.
    • Disconnect: Auto-Dimming Interior Mirror.
    • Ignition ON.
    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

      Ground

    Is the voltage greater than 11 volts? 

    Yes  GO to  I8.
    No  VERIFY the BCM fuse 38 (10A) is OK. If OK, REPAIR the circuit. If not OK, REFER to the OEM ELECTRICAL WIRING DIAGRAM INTRODUCTION to identify the possible causes of the circuit short.
  8. I8 CHECK THE AUTO-DIMMING INTERIOR MIRROR GROUND CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN

    • Ignition OFF.
    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    Is the resistance less than 3 ohms? 

    Yes  GO to  I9.
    No  REPAIR the circuit.
  9. I9 CHECK THE LIN COMMUNICATION BUS FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE

    • Ignition OFF.
    • Disconnect: BCM C2280B.
    • Ignition ON.
    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

      Ground

    Is any voltage present? 

    Yes  REPAIR the circuit.
    No  GO to  I10.
  10. I10 CHECK THE LIN COMMUNICATION BUS FOR A SHORT TO GROUND

    • Ignition OFF.
    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    Is the resistance greater than 10, 000 ohms? 

    Yes  GO to  I11.
    No  REPAIR the circuit.
  11. I11 CHECK THE LIN COMMUNICATION BUS FOR AN OPEN CIRCUIT

    • Ignition OFF.
    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    Is the resistance less than 3 ohms? 

    Yes  INSTALL a new auto-dimming interior mirror. REFER to Rear View Mirrors .
    No  REPAIR the circuit.
  12. I12 ENABLE AND VERIFY THE INOPERATIVE VIDEO CAMERA FEATURE

    • Enable and verify the inoperative video camera feature (fixed/active guidelines, manual zoom, visual park alert or video camera delay) within the FDIM.

    Does the video camera feature operate correctly? 

    Yes  The video camera is operating correctly. The video feature concern was caused by the feature being disabled. INFORM the customer on how to enable the video camera features.
    No  For an inoperative fixed/active guideline concern, GO to Pinpoint Test M . For any other concern, GO to  I13.
  13. I13 CHECK THE FDIM DISPLAY

    • Place the transmission in reverse.
    • Observe the FDIM for 30 seconds.

    Does the screen change to video camera mode and display "Please Contact Your Dealership"? 

    Yes  GO to  I14.
    No  DIAGNOSE the FDIM. For premium plus, REFER to REFER to Information and Entertainment Systems Premium Plus . For Sony ® Sound, REFER to REFER to Information and Entertainment Systems Sony Sound .
  14. I14 CHECK THE VIDEO SIGNAL CIRCUITS INTEGRITY

    • Ignition OFF.
    • Disconnect: Auto-Dimming Interior Mirror (Police Package).
    • Disconnect: APIM (All Other Vehicles).
    • For police package vehicles, measure:

    • For all other vehicles, measure:

    Is the resistance between 74 and 106 ohms? 

    Yes  GO to  I15.
    No  GO to  I17.
  15. I15 CHECK THE VIDEO CAMERA VOLTAGE SUPPLY CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN

    • Disconnect: Video Camera.
    • Ignition ON.
    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    Is the voltage greater than 11 volts? 

    Yes  GO to  I16.
    No  VERIFY the BCM fuse 34 (10A) is OK. If OK, REPAIR the circuit. If not OK, REFER to the OEM ELECTRICAL WIRING DIAGRAM INTRODUCTION to identify the possible causes of the circuit short.
  16. I16 CHECK THE VIDEO CAMERA GROUND CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN

    • For vehicles without SYNC Gen 2, measure:

    Is the voltage greater than 11 volts? 

    Yes  GO to  I17.
    No  REPAIR the circuit.
  17. I17 CHECK THE VIDEO CAMERA SIGNAL CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO GROUND

    • Ignition OFF.
    • Disconnect: Video Camera, if not previously disconnected.
    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    Are the resistances greater than 10, 000 ohms? 

    Yes  GO to  I18.
    No  REPAIR the circuit in question.

    • Measure:

    Are the resistances greater than 10, 000 ohms? 

    Yes  GO to  I19.
    No  REPAIR the circuit in question.

    • Ignition ON.
    • Measure:

    Is any voltage present? 

    Yes  REPAIR the circuit in question.
    No  GO to  I20.

    • Measure:

    Is the resistance greater than 10, 000 ohms? 

    Yes  GO to  I21.
    No  REPAIR the circuits.

    • For police package vehicles, measure:

    Are the resistances less than 3 ohms? 

    Yes  GO to  I22.
    No  REPAIR the circuit in question.
  22. I22 CHECK THE LIN CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE

    • Ignition OFF.
    • Disconnect: Rear Video Camera.
    • Disconnect: BCM C2280C.
    • Ignition ON.
    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    As any voltage present? 

    Yes  REPAIR the circuit.
    No  GO to  I23.
  23. I23 CHECK THE LIN CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND

    • Ignition OFF.
    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    Is the resistance greater than 10, 000 ohms? 

    Yes  GO to  I24.
    No  REPAIR the circuit.

    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    Is the resistance less than 3 ohms? 

    Yes  GO to  I25.
    No  REPAIR the circuit.
  25. I25 CHECK FOR CORRECT VIDEO CAMERA OPERATION

    • Disconnect the video camera connector.
    • Check for:
      • corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
      • damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins
      • pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary
    • Reconnect the video camera connector. Make sure it seats and latches correctly.
    • Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.

    Is the concern still present? 

    Yes  CHECK OASIS for any applicable TSBs. If a TSB exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW TSB instructions. If no TSBs address this concern, INSTALL a new video camera. Refer to Video Camera .
    No  The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by the video camera connection. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
