PINPOINT TEST I : The Liftgate Intelligent Access (IA) Is Inoperative

NOTE: The Intelligent Access (IA) feature is a programmable parameter and can be enabled/disabled with a scan tool. If the feature is disabled, the Intelligent Access (IA) feature to enter the vehicle and passive starting will be inoperative. To start the vehicle, the Intelligent Access (IA) key has to be placed in the backup slot.

  1. I1 CHECK THE RKE OPERATION

    • Press the unlock button on an Intelligent Access (IA) key.

    Does the driver door unlock? 

    Yes  GO to  I2.
    No  GO to Pinpoint Test J .
  2. I2 CHECK THE POWER LIFTGATE OPERATION

    • Press the interior power liftgate switch.

    Does the power liftgate open? 

    Yes  GO to  I3.
    No  REFER to Body Closures .
  3. I3 CHECK THE IA KEY

    • Place the Intelligent Access (IA) key on the center console and start the engine.

    Does the engine start? 

    Yes  GO to  I4.
    No  REFER to Passive Anti-Theft System (PATS) - With Intelligent Access (IA) .
  4. I4 CARRY OUT A NETWORK TEST

    • Using a scan tool, perform the network test.

    Does the RFA module and LTM pass the network test? 

    Yes  GO to  I5.
    No  REFER to Module Communications Network .
  5. I5 RETRIEVE THE RFA MODULE DTCs FROM THE SELF-TEST

    • Using a scan tool, perform the RFA module self-test.

    Is DTC B113E:11 present? 

    Yes  GO to  I6.
    No  GO to  I8.
  6. I6 CHECK THE LIFTGATE RELEASE SWITCH FOR A SHORT TO GROUND

    • Disconnect: Liftgate Release Switch.
    • Using a scan tool, clear the RFA module DTCs.
    • Using a scan tool, perform the RFA module self-test.

    Is DTC B113E:11 retrieved again? 

    Yes  GO to  I7.
    No  INSTALL a new exterior liftgate release switch. REFER to Liftgate Release Switch .
  7. I7 CHECK THE LIFTGATE RELEASE SWITCH INPUT CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND

    • Ignition OFF.
    • Disconnect: RFA Module C2153B.
    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

      Ground

    Is the resistance greater than 10, 000 ohms? 

    Yes  GO to  I17.
    No  REPAIR the circuit.
  8. I8 CHECK THE RFA MODULE EXTERNAL TRUNK SWITCH (Trunk_Ext_Sw) PID

    • Using a scan tool, view RFA module PIDs.
    • Press the liftgate release switch while monitoring the RFA module PID Trunk_Ext_Sw.

    Does the PID indicate the switch is being pressed? 

    Yes  GO to  I12.
    No  GO to  I9.
  9. I9 CHECK THE EXTERIOR LIFTGATE RELEASE SWITCH

    • Disconnect: Liftgate Release Switch.
    • Using a scan tool, view RFA module PIDs.
    • Monitor the RFA module PID Trunk_Ext_Sw.
    • Connect a fused jumper wire:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    Does the PID indicate that the switch is being pressed? 

    Yes  REMOVE the jumper wire. INSTALL a new exterior liftgate release switch. REFER to Liftgate Release Switch .
    No  REMOVE the jumper wire. GO to  I10.
  10. I10 CHECK THE LIFTGATE RELEASE SWITCH GROUND CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN

    • Using a scan tool, view RFA module PIDs.
    • Monitor the RFA module PID Trunk_Ext_Sw.
    • Connect a fused jumper wire:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

      Ground

    Does the PID indicate that the switch is being pressed? 

    Yes  REMOVE the jumper wire. REPAIR the circuit.
    No  REMOVE the jumper wire. GO to  I11.
  11. I11 CHECK THE LIFTGATE RELEASE SWITCH INPUT CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN

    • Ignition OFF.
    • Disconnect: RFA Module C2153B.
    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    Is the resistance less than 3 ohms? 

    Yes  GO to  I17.
    No  REPAIR the circuit.
  12. I12 CHECK THE LIFTGATE IA ANTENNA

    • Ignition OFF.
    • Disconnect: Liftgate Intelligent Access (IA) Antenna.
    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    Is the resistance between 0.3 and 0.6 ohms? 

    Yes  GO to  I13.
    No  INSTALL a new liftgate IA antenna. REFER to or Liftgate Intelligent Access (IA) Antenna.
  13. I13 CHECK THE LIFTGATE IA ANTENNA CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE

    • Disconnect: RFA Module C2153A.
    • Ignition ON.
    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    Is any voltage present? 

    Yes  REPAIR the affected circuit.
    No  GO to  I14.
  14. I14 CHECK THE LIFTGATE IA ANTENNA CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO GROUND

    • Ignition OFF.
    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    Are the resistances greater than 10, 000 ohms? 

    Yes  GO to  I15.
    No  REPAIR the affected circuit.
  15. I15 CHECK THE LIFTGATE IA ANTENNA CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO EACH OTHER

    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    Are the resistances greater than 10, 000 ohms? 

    Yes  GO to  I16.
    No  REPAIR the circuits.
  16. I16 CHECK THE LIFTGATE IA ANTENNA CIRCUITS FOR AN OPEN

    Are the resistances less than 3 ohms? 

    Yes  GO to  I17.
    No  REPAIR the affected circuit.
  17. I17 CHECK FOR CORRECT RFA MODULE OPERATION

    • Ignition OFF.
    • Disconnect and inspect all RFA module connectors.
    • Repair:
      • corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
      • damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins
      • pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary
    • Reconnect all RFA module connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.
    • Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.

    Is the concern still present? 

    Yes  CHECK OASIS for any applicable TSBs. If a TSB exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW TSB instructions. If no TSBs address this concern, INSTALL a new RFA module. REFER to Multifunction Electronic Modules .
    No  The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
