PINPOINT TEST E : The Tachometer Is Inoperative

  1. E1 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM THE PCM KOEO SELF-TEST

    • Using a scan tool, perform the PCM KOEO self-test.

    Are any DTCs recorded? 

    Yes  REFER to ENGINE CONTROLS - SYMPTOM CHARTS (EXCEPT DIESEL & HYBRID) .
    No  GO to  E2.

  2. E2 RETRIEVE THE RECORDED DTCs FROM THE IPC SELF-TEST

    • Using a scan tool, perform the IPC self-test.

    Are any DTCs recorded? 

    Yes  For DTC U0100:00, GO to Pinpoint Test AR . For all other DTCs, REFER to DTC Chart: IPC .
    No  For the base IPC, GO to  E4. For the optional IPC, GO to  E3.

  3. E3 CHECK THE DISPLAY MODE MENU

    • In the display mode menu, press the message center (LH steering wheel) switch to the right to display the tachometer.

    Does the tachometer display? 

    Yes  The tachometer is operating correctly at this time. The display mode was set to the tachometer off display.
    No  GO to  E4.

  4. E4 CARRY OUT THE TACHOMETER ACTIVE COMMAND USING THE SCAN TOOL

    • Ignition ON.
    • Using a scan tool, view the IPC PIDs.
    • Select the IPC tachometer (TACH_IND) PID. Command the tachometer on and off while monitoring the tachometer.

    Does the tachometer begin at 0 Revolutions Per Minute (RPM), increase to 6, 000 Revolutions Per Minute (RPM) (optional IPC bar graph display), 7, 000 Revolutions Per Minute (RPM) (base IPC or IPC analog gauge display) then return to 0 Revolutions Per Minute (RPM)? 

    Yes  INSTALL a new PCM. REFER to Electronic Engine Controls .
    No  Refer to IPC Hardware Testing .
