Pinpoint Test O : The Sync ® System Voice Or Tone Prompts, TTS Feature, Or Ringtones Are Inoperative Or Do Not Operate Correctly

  1. O1 CHECK THE AUDIBLE PROMPT SETTING

    • Operate the audio system in SYNC ® mode.
    • Verify the audible prompts are enabled. Refer to "SYNC ® Voice Recognition Feature" in the Owner's Literature.
    • Press the VOICE steering wheel switch and observe the SYNC ® audible prompt.

    Does the SYNC ® system produce an audible prompt correctly? 

    Yes  The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern was caused by a customer setting. INSTRUCT the customer in the correct operation of the audible prompt feature.
    No  GO to  O2.
  2. O2 CHECK FOR A VOLTAGE SIGNAL FROM THE APIM

    • Operate the audio system in SYNC ® mode.
    • While pressing the VOICE steering wheel switch repeatedly, measure the Alternating Current (AC) voltage by back-probing:

    Is an AC voltage produced each time the VOICE switch is pressed? 

    Yes  GO to  O7.
    No  GO to  O3.
  3. O3 CHECK THE AUDIBLE PROMPT CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE

    • Ignition OFF.
    • Disconnect: ACM C240B .
    • Disconnect: APIM.
    • Ignition ON.
    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    Is any voltage present? 

    Yes  REPAIR the circuit in question.
    No  GO to  O4.
  4. O4 CHECK THE AUDIBLE PROMPT CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO GROUND

    • Ignition OFF.
    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    Are the resistances greater than 10, 000 ohms? 

    Yes  GO to  O5.
    No  REPAIR the circuit in question.
  5. O5 CHECK THE AUDIBLE PROMPT CIRCUITS FOR AN OPEN

    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    Are the resistances less than 3 ohms? 

    Yes  GO to  O6.
    No  REPAIR the circuit in question.
  6. O6 CHECK FOR CORRECT APIM OPERATION

    • Ignition OFF.
    • Disconnect and inspect the APIM connector.
    • Repair:
      • Corrosion (clean module pins or install new connectors or terminals)
      • Damaged or bent pins (install new terminals or pins)
      • Pushed-out pins (install new pins as necessary)
    • Reconnect the APIM connector. Make sure it seats and latches correctly.
    • Wait 2 minutes for the APIM to re-initialize.
    • Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.

    Is the concern still present? 

    Yes  CHECK OASIS for any applicable TSBs. If a TSB exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW TSB instructions. If no TSBs address this concern, Refer to APIM HARDWARE TESTING .
    No  The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
  7. O7 CHECK FOR CORRECT ACM OPERATION

    • Ignition OFF.
    • Disconnect and inspect all ACM connectors.
    • Repair:
      • Corrosion (clean module pins or install new connectors or terminals)
      • Damaged or bent pins (install new terminals or pins)
      • Pushed-out pins (install new pins as necessary)
    • Reconnect the ACM connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.
    • Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.

    Is the concern still present? 

    Yes  CHECK OASIS for any applicable TSBs. If a TSB exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW TSB instructions. If no TSBs address this concern, INSTALL a new audio ACM. Refer to Audio Control Module (ACM) .
    No  The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
