PINPOINT TEST C : A Single Mirror Does Not Function With Switch Logic
- C1 CHECK THE EXTERIOR MIRROR LEFT AND RIGHT MOVEMENT
- Ignition ON.
- Operate the LH and RH exterior mirrors in the left and right direction using the exterior mirror control switch.
Do both exterior mirrors move left and right?
Yes GO to C2. No GO to C7. - C2 CHECK THE EXTERIOR MIRROR UP/DOWN MOTOR
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect: Incorrectly Operating RH Exterior Mirror or LH Exterior Mirror.
- Ignition ON.
- Select the incorrectly operating mirror on the exterior mirror control switch.
- For incorrectly operating LH mirror, while using the exterior mirror control switch in the up, down and released positions, monitor:
Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead C516-2 Test Light C516-1
- For incorrectly operating RH mirror, while using the exterior mirror control switch in the up, down and released positions, monitor:
Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead C601A-2 Test Light C601A-1
Did the test light illuminate in the up and down position and not illuminate in the released position?
Yes CHECK the inoperative exterior mirror jumper harness between the vehicle harness and the exterior mirror motor for open circuits and damaged or pushed-out pins. If the jumper harness is not OK, REPAIR the jumper harness. If the jumper harness cannot be repaired, INSTALL a new exterior mirror. Refer to Exterior Mirror . If the jumper harness is OK, INSTALL a new exterior mirror motor. Refer to Exterior Mirror Motor . No GO to C3. - C3 CHECK THE EXTERIOR MIRROR UP/DOWN CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect: Exterior Mirror Control Switch C535A (base mirrors).
- Disconnect: Exterior Mirror Control Switch C504 (heated mirrors).
- Ignition ON.
- For incorrectly operating LH mirror, measure:
Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead C516-1 Ground
- For incorrectly operating RH mirror, measure:
Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead C601A-1 Ground
Is any voltage present?
Yes REPAIR the circuit. No GO to C4. - C4 CHECK THE EXTERIOR MIRROR UP/DOWN CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
- Ignition OFF.
- For incorrectly operating LH mirror, measure:
Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead C516-1 Ground
- For incorrectly operating RH mirror, measure:
Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead C601A-1 Ground
Is the resistance greater than 10, 000 ohms?
Yes For vehicles with base mirrors, GO to C5. For vehicles with heated mirrors, GO to C6. No REPAIR the circuit. - C5 CHECK THE BASE EXTERIOR MIRROR UP/DOWN CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
- For incorrectly operating LH mirror, measure:
Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead C516-1 C535A-6
- For incorrectly operating RH mirror, measure:
Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead C601A-1 C535A-8
Is the resistance less than 3 ohms?
Yes INSTALL a new exterior mirror control switch (integral to the master window control switch). REFER to Glass, Frames and Mechanisms . No REPAIR the circuit. - For incorrectly operating LH mirror, measure:
- C6 CHECK THE HEATED EXTERIOR MIRROR UP/DOWN CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
- For incorrectly operating LH mirror, measure:
Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead C516-1 C504-6
- For incorrectly operating RH mirror, measure:
Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead C601A-1 C504-8
Is the resistance less than 3 ohms?
Yes INSTALL a new exterior mirror control switch (integral to the master window control switch). REFER to Glass, Frames and Mechanisms . No REPAIR the circuit. - For incorrectly operating LH mirror, measure:
- C7 CHECK THE EXTERIOR MIRROR LEFT/RIGHT MOTOR
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect: Incorrectly Operating RH Exterior Mirror or LH Exterior Mirror.
- Ignition ON.
- Select the incorrectly operating mirror on the exterior mirror control switch.
- For incorrectly operating LH mirror, while using the exterior mirror control switch in the right, left and released positions, monitor:
Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead C516-2 Test Light C516-4
- For incorrectly operating RH mirror, while using the exterior mirror control switch in the right, left and released positions, monitor:
Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead C601A-2 Test Light C601A-4
Did the test light illuminate in the right and left position and not illuminate in the released position?
Yes CHECK the inoperative exterior mirror jumper harness between the vehicle harness and the exterior mirror motor for open circuits and damaged or pushed-out pins. - Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect: Exterior Mirror Control Switch C535A (base mirrors).
- Disconnect: Exterior Mirror Control Switch C504 (heated mirrors).
- Ignition ON.
- For incorrectly operating LH mirror, measure:
Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead C516-4 Ground
- For incorrectly operating RH mirror, measure:
Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead C601A-4 Ground
Is any voltage present?
Yes REPAIR the circuit. No GO to C9. - C9 CHECK THE EXTERIOR MIRROR LEFT/RIGHT CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
- Ignition OFF.
- For incorrectly operating LH mirror, measure:
Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead C516-4 Ground
- For incorrectly operating RH mirror, measure:
Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead C601A-4 Ground
Is the resistance greater than 10, 000 ohms?

Is the resistance less than 3 ohms?
Yes INSTALL a new exterior mirror control switch (integral to the master window control switch). REFER to Glass, Frames and Mechanisms . No REPAIR the circuit. - For incorrectly operating LH mirror, measure:
- C11 CHECK THE HEATED EXTERIOR MIRROR LEFT/RIGHT CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
- For incorrectly operating LH mirror, measure:

Is the resistance less than 3 ohms?
