PINPOINT TEST A : The Windshield Wipers Are Inoperative
- A1 CHECK FOR SCCM DTC B1131:02 OR B1131:08
- Ignition ON.
- Using a scan tool, perform SCCM self-test.
Is DTC B1131:02 or B1131:08 present?
Yes GO to A3. No GO to A2. - A2 CHECK THE FRONT WIPER COMMAND LOW SPEED (F_WIP_SLO_SW) PID
- Ignition ON.
- Using a scan tool, view SCCM PID.
- While monitoring the SCCM PID F_WIP_SLO_SW, place the wiper/washer switch into the windshield wiper LOW position.
Does the PID read ON when the wiper/washer switch is in the LOW position?
Yes GO to A3. No For vehicles without the police package, INSTALL a new wiper/washer switch. REFER to Wiper and Washer Switch . If the concern is still present, INSTALL a new SCCM. REFER to STEERING COLUMN CONTROL MODULE (SCCM) . For vehicles with the police package, INSTALL a new multifunction switch. REFER to STEERING COLUMN MULTIFUNCTION SWITCH . If the concern is still present, INSTALL a new SCCM. REFER to STEERING COLUMN CONTROL MODULE (SCCM) . - A3 CHECK THE WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR GROUND CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect: Windshield Wiper Motor.
- Measure:
Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead C125-6 Ground
Is the resistance less than 3 ohms?
Yes GO to A4. No REPAIR the circuit. - A4 CHECK THE WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR VOLTAGE CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
- Ignition ON.
- Measure:
Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead C125-8 Ground
Is the voltage greater than 11 volts?
Yes GO to A9. No GO to A5. - A5 CHECK FOR VOLTAGE TO THE FRONT WIPER RELAY
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect: Front Wiper Relay.
Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead Front Wiper Relay, Pin 3 Ground
- Measure:
Is the voltage greater than 11 volts?
Yes GO to A6. No VERIFY BJB fuse 4 (30A) is OK. If OK, REPAIR the circuit. If not OK, REFER to the SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAMS article to identify the possible causes of the circuit short. - A6 CHECK FOR IGNITION VOLTAGE TO THE FRONT WIPER RELAY
- Ignition ON.
Is the voltage greater than 11 volts?
Yes GO to A7. No REPAIR the circuit. - A7 CHECK THE FRONT WIPER RELAY GROUND CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
- Ignition OFF.
Is the resistance less than 3 ohms?
Yes GO to A8. No REPAIR the circuit. - A8 CHECK THE FRONT WIPER RELAY
- Carry out the Relay-Micro ISO component test. Refer to OEM WIRING DIAGRAMS COMPONENT TESTING for component testing.
Did the wiper relay pass the component test?
Yes REPAIR circuit CRW03 (VT/WH) for an open. No INSTALL a new front wiper relay. - A9 CHECK FOR CORRECT WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR OPERATION
- Ignition OFF.
- Inspect the windshield wiper motor connector.
- Repair:
- corrosion (replace connector or terminals - clean module pins)
- damaged or bent pins - replace terminals/pins
- pushed-out pins - replace pins as necessary
- Reconnect the windshield wiper motor connector. Make sure it seats and latches correctly.
- Connect: Front Wiper Relay (if previously disconnected).
- Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
Is the concern still present?
Yes CHECK OASIS for any applicable TSBs. If a TSB exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW the TSB instructions. If no TSBs address this concern, INSTALL a new windshield wiper motor. REFER to Wiper Motor - Windshield . No The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
