PINPOINT TEST C : The Windshield Wipers Stay On Continuously

  1. C1 CHECK THE WIPER/WASHER SWITCH PIDs

    • Ignition ON.
    • Using a scan tool, view SCCM PIDs.
    • While cycling through all windshield wiper/washer switch positions, verify the status of each SCCM PID changes state:
      • Front Wiper Select Switch A (F_WIP_INT_D1)
      • Front Wiper Select Switch B (F_WIP_INT_D2)
      • Front Wiper Select Switch C (F_WIP_INT_D3)
      • Front Wiper Intermittent Data 4 (F_WIP_INT_D4)
      • Front Wiper Intermittent Data 5 (F_WIP_INT_D5)
      • Front Wiper Command Low Speed (F_WIP_SLO_SW)
      • Front Wiper Command High Speed (F_WIPE_FAST_SW)
      • Washer Switch Front (F_WASH_SW)
      • Single Wipe Stroke (WIPE_SINGLE)

    Do all of the PIDs change state when the wiper/washer switch is cycled through all wiper positions? 

    Yes  GO to  C2.
    No  For vehicles without the police package, INSTALL a new wiper/washer switch. REFER to Wiper and Washer Switch . If the concern is still present, INSTALL a new SCCM. REFER to STEERING COLUMN CONTROL MODULE (SCCM) . For vehicles with the police package, INSTALL a new multifunction switch. REFER to STEERING COLUMN MULTIFUNCTION SWITCH . If the concern is still present, INSTALL a new SCCM. REFER to STEERING COLUMN CONTROL MODULE (SCCM) .
  2. C2 CHECK THE WINDSHIELD WIPER OPERATION WITH THE SCCM DISCONNECTED

    • Ignition OFF.
    • Disconnect: SCCM C2414A.
    • Ignition ON.
    • Verify the windshield wiper operation

    Are the windshield wipers still operating? 

    Yes  GO to  C3.
    No  GO to  C5.
  3. C3 CHECK THE HIGH SPEED FAIL-SAFE CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND

    • Ignition OFF.
    • Disconnect: Windshield Wiper Motor.
    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

      Ground

    Is the resistance greater than 10, 000 ohms? 

    Yes  GO to  C4.
    No  REPAIR the circuit.
  4. C4 CHECK FOR CORRECT WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR OPERATION

    • Inspect the windshield wiper motor connector.
    • Repair:
      • corrosion (replace connector or terminals - clean module pins)
      • damaged or bent pins - replace terminals/pins
      • pushed-out pins - replace pins as necessary
    • Reconnect the windshield wiper motor connector. Make sure it seats and latches correctly.
    • Connect: SCCM C2414A
    • Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.

    Is the concern still present? 

    Yes  CHECK OASIS for any applicable TSBs. If a TSB exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW the TSB instructions. If no TSBs address this concern, INSTALL a new windshield wiper motor. REFER to Wiper Motor - Windshield .
    No  The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
  5. C5 CHECK FOR CORRECT SCCM OPERATION

    • Disconnect and inspect all SCCM connectors.
    • Repair:
      • corrosion (replace connector or terminals - clean module pins)
      • damaged or bent pins - replace terminals/pins
      • pushed-out pins - replace pins as necessary
    • Reconnect the SCCM connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.
    • Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.

    Is the concern still present? 

    Yes  CHECK OASIS for any applicable TSBs. If a TSB exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW the TSB instructions. If no TSBs address this concern, INSTALL a new SCCM. REFER to STEERING COLUMN CONTROL MODULE (SCCM) .
    No  The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
