PINPOINT TEST E : The Windshield or Rear Window Wipers Do Not Operate Correctly in the Low/High/Intermittent Mode
- E1 CHECK FOR SCCM DTCs
- Ignition ON.
- Using a scan tool, perform SCCM self-test.
Are any SCCM DTCs present?
Yes REFER to the Related Module DTC Chart . No GO to E2. - E2 CHECK THE WIPER/WASHER SWITCH PIDs
- Using a scan tool, view SCCM PIDs.
- Make sure the wiper/washer switch is in the OFF position.
- Verify the status of each of the following SCCM PIDs is displayed as OFF:
- Front Wiper Select Switch A (F_WIP_INT_D1)
- Front Wiper Select Switch B (F_WIP_INT_D2)
- Front Wiper Select Switch C (F_WIP_INT_D3)
- Front Wiper Intermittent Data 4 (F_WIP_INT_D4)
- Front Wiper Intermittent Data 5 (F_WIP_INT_D5)
- Front Wiper Command Low Speed (F_WIP_SLO_SW)
- Front Wiper Command High Speed (F_WIPE_FAST_SW)
- Washer Switch Front (F_WASH_SW)
- Single Wipe Stroke (WIPE_SINGLE)
- Rear Wiper Delay 1 (R_WIPE_DEL1)
- Rear Wiper Delay 2 (R_WIPE_DEL2)
- Washer Switch Rear (R_WASH_SW)
Are all of the PIDs displayed as OFF?
Yes GO to E3. No For vehicles without the police package, INSTALL a new wiper/washer switch. REFER to Wiper and Washer Switch . If the concern is still present, INSTALL a new SCCM. REFER to STEERING COLUMN CONTROL MODULE (SCCM) . For vehicles with the police package, INSTALL a new multifunction switch. REFER to STEERING COLUMN MULTIFUNCTION SWITCH . If the concern is still present, INSTALL a new SCCM. REFER to STEERING COLUMN CONTROL MODULE (SCCM) . - E3 CHECK THE REAR WIPER SWITCH PID
- Using a scan tool, view SCCM PIDs.
- Make sure the wiper/washer switch is in the OFF position.
- Verify the status of the SCCM Rear Wiper Off Switch (R_WIPE_OFF_SW) PID is displayed as ON.
Is the Rear Wiper Off Switch (R_WIPE_OFF_SW) PID displayed as ON?
Yes GO to E4. No For vehicles without the police package, INSTALL a new wiper/washer switch. REFER to Wiper and Washer Switch . If the concern is still present, INSTALL a new SCCM. REFER to STEERING COLUMN CONTROL MODULE (SCCM) . For vehicles with the police package, INSTALL a new multifunction switch. REFER to STEERING COLUMN MULTIFUNCTION SWITCH . If the concern is still present, INSTALL a new SCCM. REFER to STEERING COLUMN CONTROL MODULE (SCCM) . - E4 CHECK FOR CORRECT WINDSHIELD WIPER MOTOR OPERATION
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect and inspect the windshield wiper motor connector.
- Repair:
- corrosion (replace connector or terminals - clean module pins)
- damaged or bent pins - replace terminals/pins
- pushed-out pins - replace pins as necessary
- Reconnect the windshield wiper motor connector. Make sure it seats and latches correctly.
- Operate the system and verify the concern is still present.
Is the concern still present?
Yes CHECK OASIS for any applicable TSBs. If a TSB exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW the TSB instructions. If no TSBs address this concern, INSTALL a new windshield wiper motor. REFER to Wiper Motor - Windshield . No The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
