PINPOINT TEST G : The Keyless Entry Keypad Illumination Is Inoperative Or Always On

  1. G1 CHECK THE KEYLESS ENTRY KEYPAD ILLUMINATION

    • Ignition OFF.
    • Check the keyless entry keypad illumination.

    Is the keyless entry keypad illumination always on? 

    Yes  GO to  G8.
    No  GO to  G2.
  2. G2 CHECK THE KEYLESS ENTRY KEYPAD INPUT TO THE RFA MODULE

    • Using a scan tool, monitor the RFA module PIDs.
    • Touch several keyless entry keypad buttons while observing the RFA module PIDs Keypd_SW_1_2, Keypd_SW_3_4, Keypd_SW_5_6, Keypd_SW_7_8 and Keypd_SW_9_0.

    Do the PIDs display the correct values? 

    Yes  GO to  G3.
    No  GO to Pinpoint Test F .
  3. G3 CHECK THE RFA MODULE DTCs FROM THE SELF-TEST

    • Using a scan tool, perform the RFA module self-test.

    Is DTC B121A:11 present? 

    Yes  GO to  G4.
    No  GO to  G6.
  4. G4 CHECK THE KEYLESS ENTRY KEYPAD FOR A SHORT TO GROUND

    • Disconnect: Keyless Entry Keypad.
    • Using a scan tool, clear the RFA module DTCs.
    • Using a scan tool, perform the RFA module self-test.

    Is DTC B121B:11 recorded? 

    Yes  GO to  G5.
    No  INSTALL a new keyless entry keypad. REFER to Keyless Entry Keypad .
  5. G5 CHECK THE KEYLESS ENTRY KEYPAD ILLUMINATION CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND

    • Ignition OFF.
    • Disconnect: RFA Module C2153D.
    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead
      C500-2

      Ground

    Is the resistance greater than 10, 000 ohms? 

    Yes  GO to  G9.
    No  REPAIR the circuit.
  6. G6 CHECK FOR RFA MODULE OUTPUT

    • Using a scan tool, view RFA module PIDs.
    • While active commanding the RFA module PID KEYPD_LMP_OS ON, measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

      Ground

    Is the voltage greater than 11 volts? 

    Yes  INSTALL a new keyless entry keypad. REFER to Keyless Entry Keypad .
    No  GO to  G7.
  7. G7 CHECK THE KEYLESS ENTRY KEYPAD ILLUMINATION CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN

    • Ignition OFF.
    • Disconnect: RFA Module C2153D.
    • Measure:
      Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead

    Is the resistance less than 3 ohms? 

    Yes  GO to  G9.
    No  REPAIR the circuit.
  8. G8 CHECK THE KEYLESS ENTRY KEYPAD ILLUMINATION CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE

    • Disconnect: RFA Module C2153D.
    • Ignition ON.
    • Observe the keypad illumination.

    Is the keypad still illuminated? 

    Yes  REPAIR the circuit.
    No  GO to  G9.
  9. G9 CHECK FOR CORRECT RFA MODULE OPERATION

    • Ignition OFF.
    • Disconnect and inspect all RFA module connectors.
    • Repair:
      • corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
      • damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins
      • pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary
    • Reconnect all RFA module connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.
    • Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.

    Is the concern still present? 

    Yes  CHECK OASIS for any applicable TSBs. If a TSB exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW TSB instructions. If no TSBs address this concern, INSTALL a new RFA module. REFER to Multifunction Electronic Modules .
    No  The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues.
