PINPOINT TEST I : The Memory Seat is Inoperative or Does Not Operate Correctly - Does Not Operate Horizontally, Vertically or Recline
- I1 CHECK THE PCM TR PID STATES
- Ignition ON.
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, view PCM PID TR.
- Operate the transmission gear selector in all positions while monitoring the PCM PID TR states.
Do the PID states agree with the selected positions?
Yes GO to I2. No To diagnose a transmission gear selector (PRNDL) status concern, REFER to Automatic Transmission 6F50/6F55 . - I2 CHECK THE DSM IGNITION SWITCH STATUS (IGN_SW) PID STATES
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, view DSM PID IGN_SW.
- Cycle the ignition in all positions while monitoring the DSM IGN_SW PID states.
Do the PID states agree with the selected positions?
Yes GO to I3. No For vehicles equipped with an ignition lock cylinder and key, REFER to Instrumentation, Message Center, and Warning Chimes . For vehicles equipped with passive entry/passive start, REFER to Steering Column Switches . - I3 RETRIEVE DSM DTCs
- Operate the memory seat and memory mirrors in all directions through the full range of travel.
- Place the memory seat and memory mirrors in central travel positions.
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform DSM self-test.
Are any DSM DTCs retrieved?
Yes If DTCs B1663, B1664, B1665 and B1666 are all retrieved, GO to I12. If DTC B1663, GO to I22. If DTC B1664, GO to I25. If DTC B1665, GO to I28. If DTC B1666, GO to I31. If only DTC B1703, B1707, B1711, B1715, B1719, B1723, B1727 or B1731 are retrieved, GO to I5. For any other DSM DTCs, Refer to Seating . No GO to I4. - I4 MONITOR THE DSM PIDs AND CHECK FOR CORRECT MEMORY SEAT SWITCH INPUTS
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, view DSM PIDs.
- Driver Power Seat Front Up/Down Switch (SFNT_SW)
- Driver Power Seat Forward/Backward Switch (SFWD_SW)
- Driver Power Seat Recline Switch Status (SRCL_SW)
- Driver Power Seat Rear Up/Down Switch (SREARSW)
- Monitor DSM seat switch PIDs while activating the seat switch in all positions.
Do the PID states agree with the switch positions?
Yes GO to I11. No GO to I5. - Using a diagnostic scan tool, view DSM PIDs.
- I5 CHECK THE SEAT CONTROL SWITCH

Ignition OFF.
WARNING: Turn the ignition OFF and wait one minute to deplete the backup power supply. Failure to follow this instruction may result in serious personal injury or death in the event of an accidental deployment.- Disconnect: Driver Seat Side Air Bag C3051 .
- Disconnect: Seat Control Switch C369 .
- Carry out the seat control switch component test. Refer to Component Testing for component testing.
Did the seat control switch pass the seat control switch component test?
Yes GO to I6. No INSTALL a new seat control switch. Refer to Seat Control Switch . CLEAR the DTCs. GO to I35. -
- I6 CHECK FOR VOLTAGE TO THE SEAT CONTROL SWITCH
- Measure:
Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead C369-5 Ground
Is the voltage greater than 11 volts?
Yes GO to I7. No VERIFY BCM fuse 19 (20A) is OK, If OK, REPAIR the circuit. If not OK, REFER to the OEM ELECTRICAL WIRING DIAGRAM INTRODUCTION to identify possible causes of the circuit short. CLEAR the DTCs. GO to I35. - Measure:
- I7 CHECK THE SEAT CONTROL SWITCH GROUND CIRCUIT FOR AN OPEN
- Measure:
Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead C369-3 Ground
Is the resistance less than 3 ohms?
Yes GO to I8. No REPAIR the circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. GO to I35. - Measure:
- I8 CHECK SEAT CONTROL SWITCH TO DSM CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE
- Disconnect: DSM C341B .
- Ignition ON.
- Measure:
Positive Lead Measurement / Action Negative Lead C369-1 Ground C369-2 Ground C369-4 Ground C369-6 Ground C369-8 Ground C369-9 Ground C369-11 Ground C369-12 Ground
Is any voltage present?
Yes REPAIR the affected circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. GO to I35. No GO to I9. - I9 CHECK SEAT CONTROL SWITCH TO DSM CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
- Ignition OFF.
- Measure:

- Disconnect: DSM C341B .
- Measure:

- Using a diagnostic scan tool, view DSM PIDs.
- Front Motor Up (FRONT_UP)
- Front Motor Down (FRONT_DWN)
- Rear Motor Up (REAR_UP)
- Rear Motor Down (REAR_DWN)
- Horizontal Motor Forward (HORZ_FWD)
- Horizontal Motor Backward (HORZ_BWD)
- Recline Motor Forward (RECL_FWD)
- Recline Motor Backward (RECL_BWD)
- Toggle the DSM active commands ON and OFF while monitoring the seat movement.
Does the driver seat operate correctly?
Yes GO to I34. No If no seat movement, GO to I12. If no front vertical seat movement, GO to I22. If no rear vertical seat movement, GO to I25. If no horizontal seat movement, GO to I28. If no recline seat movement, GO to I31. - Using a diagnostic scan tool, view DSM PIDs.
- I12 CHECK VOLTAGE SUPPLY TO THE DSM

Ignition OFF.

Yes GO to I13. No VERIFY BJB fuse 23 (30A) is OK. If OK, REPAIR the circuit. If not OK, REFER to the OEM ELECTRICAL WIRING DIAGRAM INTRODUCTION to identify possible causes of the circuit short. CLEAR the DTCs. GO to I35. -
- I13 CHECK THE DSM GROUND CIRCUITS FOR AN OPEN
- Disconnect: DSM C341B .
- Measure:

Are the resistances less than 3 ohms?
Yes GO to I14. No REPAIR the affected circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. GO to I35. - I14 CHECK SEAT FRONT HEIGHT MOTOR CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
Are the resistances greater than 10, 000 ohms?
Yes GO to I16. No GO to I15. - I15 CHECK SEAT FRONT HEIGHT MOTOR CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO GROUND WITH THE MOTOR DISCONNECTED
- Disconnect: Driver Seat Front Height Motor C382 .
Are the resistances greater than 10, 000 ohms?
Yes INSTALL a new seat track assembly. Refer to Seat Track . CLEAR the DTCs. GO to I35. No REPAIR the affected circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. GO to I35. - I16 CHECK THE SEAT REAR HEIGHT MOTOR CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
Are the resistances greater than 10, 000 ohms?
Yes GO to I18. No GO to I17. - I17 CHECK THE SEAT REAR HEIGHT MOTOR CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO GROUND WITH THE MOTOR DISCONNECTED
- Disconnect: Driver Seat Rear Height Motor C363 .
Are the resistances greater than 10, 000 ohms?
Yes INSTALL a new seat track assembly. Refer to Seat Track . CLEAR the DTCs. GO to I35. No REPAIR the affected circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. GO to I35. - I18 CHECK THE SEAT HORIZONTAL MOTOR CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
Are the resistances greater than 10, 000 ohms?
Yes GO to I20. No GO to I19. - I19 CHECK THE SEAT HORIZONTAL MOTOR CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO GROUND WITH THE MOTOR DISCONNECTED
- Disconnect: Driver Seat Horizontal Motor C362 .
Are the resistances greater than 10, 000 ohms?
Yes INSTALL a new front seat track motor. Refer to Seat Track Motor - Front . CLEAR the DTCs. GO to I35. No REPAIR the affected circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. GO to I35. - I20 CHECK THE DRIVER POWER SEAT RECLINER MOTOR CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
Are the resistances greater than 10, 000 ohms?
Yes GO to I34. No GO to I21. - I21 CHECK THE DRIVER SEAT RECLINER MOTOR CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO GROUND WITH THE MOTOR DISCONNECTED
- Disconnect: Driver Seat Recliner Motor C3187 .
Are the resistances greater than 10, 000 ohms?
Yes INSTALL a new seat recliner motor. Refer to Seat Recliner Motor . CLEAR the DTCs. GO to I35. No REPAIR the affected circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. GO to I35. - I22 CHECK THE SEAT FRONT HEIGHT MOTOR FOR CORRECT OPERATION

- While toggling DSM active commands front motor up and front motor down, on and off, measure:

NOTE: During the following step, the voltage being measured changes polarity dependent upon which direction the seat is activated.Is the voltage greater than 11 volts when the seat control switch is operated and 0 volt in the rest position?
Yes INSTALL a new seat track assembly. Refer to Seat Track . CLEAR the DTCs. GO to I35. No GO to I23. -
- I23 CHECK THE SEAT FRONT HEIGHT MOTOR CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect: DSM C341B .
- Ignition ON.
Is any voltage present on either circuit?
Yes REPAIR the affected circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. GO to I35. No GO to I24. - I24 CHECK THE SEAT FRONT HEIGHT MOTOR CIRCUITS FOR AN OPEN
- Ignition OFF.
Are the resistances less than 3 ohms?
Yes GO to I34. No REPAIR the affected circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. GO to I35. - I25 CHECK THE SEAT REAR HEIGHT MOTOR FOR CORRECT OPERATION

- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect: DSM C341B .
- Ignition ON.
Is any voltage present on either circuit?
Yes REPAIR the affected circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. GO to I35. No GO to I27. - I27 CHECK THE REAR HEIGHT MOTOR CIRCUITS FOR AN OPEN
- Ignition OFF.
Are the resistances less than 3 ohms?
Yes GO to I34. No REPAIR the affected circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. GO to I35. - I28 CHECK THE HORIZONTAL MOTOR FOR CORRECT OPERATION

- Disconnect: DSM C341B .
- Ignition ON.
Is any voltage present on either circuit?
Yes REPAIR the affected circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. GO to I35. No GO to I30. - I30 CHECK THE HORIZONTAL MOTOR CIRCUITS FOR AN OPEN
- Ignition OFF.
Are the resistances less than 3 ohms?
Yes GO to I34. No REPAIR the affected circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. GO to I35. - I31 CHECK THE DRIVER SEAT RECLINER MOTOR FOR CORRECT OPERATION

Ignition OFF.

- While toggling DSM active commands recline motor forward and recline motor backward on and off, measure:

Is the voltage greater than 11 volts when command on in both directions and no voltage present when commanded off?
Yes INSTALL a new seat recliner motor. Refer to Seat Recliner Motor . CLEAR the DTCs. GO to I35. No GO to I32. -
- I32 CHECK THE DRIVER SEAT RECLINER MOTOR CIRCUITS FOR A SHORT TO VOLTAGE
- Disconnect: DSM C341B .
Is any voltage present on either circuit?
Yes REPAIR the affected circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. GO to I35. No GO to I33. - I33 CHECK THE DRIVER SEAT RECLINER MOTOR CIRCUITS FOR AN OPEN
- Ignition OFF.
Are the resistances less than 3 ohms?
Yes GO to I34. No REPAIR the affected circuit. CLEAR the DTCs. GO to I35. - I34 CHECK FOR CORRECT DSM OPERATION
- Ignition OFF.
- Disconnect and inspect all DSM connectors.
- Repair:
- corrosion (install new connector or terminals - clean module pins)
- damaged or bent pins - install new terminals/pins as necessary
- pushed-out pins - install new pins as necessary
- Reconnect the DSM connectors and all previously disconnected rear window defrost system connectors. Make sure they seat and latch correctly.
- Operate the system and determine if the concern is still present.
Is the concern still present?
Yes CHECK OASIS for any applicable TSBs. If a TSB exists for this concern, DISCONTINUE this test and FOLLOW TSB instructions. If no TSBs address this concern, INSTALL a new DSM. Refer to Driver Seat Module (DSM) . GO to I35. No The system is operating correctly at this time. The concern may have been caused by module connections. ADDRESS the root cause of any connector or pin issues. GO to I35. - I35 CHECK FOR SRS DTCs

Ignition OFF.
WARNING: Turn the ignition OFF and wait one minute to deplete the backup power supply. Failure to follow this instruction may result in serious personal injury or death in the event of an accidental deployment.- Connect: Driver Seat Side Air Bag C3051 .
- Connect: All previously disconnected electrical connectors.
- Ignition ON.
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, clear the RCM DTCs.
- Cycle the ignition OFF then ON.
- Using a diagnostic scan tool, perform RCM self-test.
Are any RCM DTCs retrieved during self-test?
Yes REFER to Supplemental Restraint System for pinpoint test direction. No The repair is complete. RETURN the vehicle to the customer. -
