Seat Recliner Motor: Removal

NOTE: For parts identification and location, refer to Seat - Exploded View, Front .

  1. 1.

    Remove the front seat. Refer to Seat .

  1. 2.

    Detach the backrest cover from the cushion cover.

  1. 3.

    Disconnect and detach the electrical connectors and wire harnesses. Detach the backrest and cushion cover retainers and route out the wire harnesses.

    NOTE: Note wire harness routing for installation.

  1. 4.
    Disengage the backrest cover lower J-clips and route the wire harnesses through the backrest cover holes.
    NOTE: Use care when separating the backrest cover from the hook-and-loop strip, or the hook-and-loop strip can be torn from the backrest foam pad.

  1. 5.
    Separate the backrest cover hook-and-loop strips from the backrest foam pad and position the backrest cover up to the first row of hog rings.

  1. 6.

    Remove the first row of hog rings.

  1. 7.

    Position the backrest cover up to the second row of hog rings and remove the hog rings.

  1. 8.

    From the rear of the backrest, disengage the backrest cover J-clip attached to the backrest frame wire.

  1. 9.

    If equipped, separate the backrest TED from the backrest foam pad wire.

  1. 10.

    Remove the 2 pin-type retainers at the rear of the backrest foam pad.

    NOTE: Do not rotate the inboard and outboard recliners separately from each other. Doing so will cause the recliners to become out of synchronization.

  1. 11.
    Remove the E-clip on the recliner shaft and the recliner motor bolt.

  1. 12.

    Remove the power recliner motor.

      Slide the recliner shaft assembly out of the recliner and remove the short recliner shaft.

    1. 2.

      Slide the long recliner shaft out of the recliner motor.

    1. 3.

      Disconnect and remove the power recliner motor.
