Removal And Installation: Removal

WARNING:

Review the warnings and cautions for this system before performing the procedure. Failure to follow these instructions may result in serious or fatal injury.

NOTE:

The Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning, Rear (HVACR) housing must be removed from the vehicle for service of the mode door actuator, blend door actuator, blower motor and HVACR module and, it must be disassembled for service of the A/C evaporator, heater core, mode door and blend door.

  1. Recover the refrigerant from the refrigerant system. Refer to PLUMBING, FRONT, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
  2. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable. If equipped with an Intelligent Battery Sensor (IBS), disconnect the IBS connector first before disconnecting the negative battery cable.
  3. Drain the engine cooling system. Refer to STANDARD PROCEDURE .
  4. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to HOISTING, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
  5. Remove the right rear wheelhouse splash shield. Refer to SHIELD, SPLASH, REAR WHEELHOUSE, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .

  6. Remove the underbody lines to expansion valve nut (2).
  7. Disconnect the underbody lines from the rear A/C expansion valve. Remove and discard  the O-ring seals.
  8. Install plugs in or tape over the opened underbody refrigerant line fittings and rear expansion valve ports.

    CAUTION:

    DO NOT apply excessive force on underbody heater lines or rear heater hose quick connect fittings when disconnecting the connections. Excessive force may damage or deform the fittings and or lines, causing an engine coolant leak.

  9. Disconnect the underbody heater lines (2) from the rear heater core tubes which extend through the rear wheelhouse panel by releasing the insert in each rear quick connect fitting and carefully pulling downward on the fittings while using a slight twisting motion.
  10. Lower the underbody heater lines and drain any residual coolant from the lines into a suitable container.
  11. Remove the support and lower the vehicle.
  12. Remove right rear quarter trim panel. Refer to PANEL, QUARTER TRIM, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  13. Remove the rear floor distribution duct. Refer to DUCT, FLOOR DISTRIBUTION, REAR, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  14. Remove the rear ceiling distribution duct. Refer to DUCT, CEILING DISTRIBUTION, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
  15. Disconnect the HVACR housing wire harness connector.

  16. Remove the two HVACR housing to inner quarter panel bolts (2).
  17. Remove the three rear heater lines to inner quarter panel nuts (1).
  18. Remove the HVACR housing (3).
