Removal And Installation: Rear: Removal

NOTE:

Before proceeding. Refer to WARNING . Refer to CAUTION .

NOTE:

Removal process is the same for both sides of the vehicle.

CAUTION:

If the Electric Park Brake (EPB) switch is actuated with the caliper removed from the caliper bracket and still connected electrically, the EPB motor will fully extend causing damage to the caliper piston. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable. If equipped with an Intelligent Battery Sensor (IBS), disconnect the IBS connector first before disconnecting the negative battery cable.

NOTE:

To remove the vehicle from Service Mode, press the EPB switch while also depressing the brake pedal.

For information on Service Mode and normal operating conditions. Refer to MODULE, ELECTRIC PARK BRAKE (EPBM), DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION .

The EPB must be retracted prior to removing the brake caliper assembly. This can be done in two ways:

CAUTION:

  1. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable. If equipped with an Intelligent Battery Sensor (IBS), disconnect the IBS connector first before disconnecting the negative battery cable.
  2. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to HOISTING, STANDARD PROCEDURE .
  3. Remove the tire and wheel assembly. Refer to REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .

  4. Disconnect the EPB actuator wire harness connector (4).
  5. Remove the caliper adapter to rear knuckle mounting bracket fasteners (2).
  6. Carefully remove and support the brake caliper mounting bracket assembly aside taking care not to over extend the brake hose.

  7. Remove the brake rotor (2) from the hub and bearing.
