Description And Operation: Operation

The EPB switch sends an ON/OFF request signal to the EPB module to apply or release the EPB.

At any time, the EPB switch can be actuated. Depending on the speed of the vehicle when the EPB switch is actuated, the EPB module will output different commands to request the EPB to apply under the following conditions:

Static Apply  (under 5 km/h /3 mph) - Actuates the EPB motors attached to the rear calipers to apply the rear brakes.

Dynamic Apply  (over 5 km/h /3 mph) - Actuates the hydraulic braking system.

There are two indicators in the instrument cluster to give feedback for the electric parking brake system. The traditional red BRAKE warning lamp is illuminated when the EPB is applied. If there is a fault in the EPB system, an amber EPB fault lamp is illuminated.

NOTE:

To remove the vehicle from Service Mode, press the EPB switch while also pressing the brake pedal.

For information on Service Mode and normal operating conditions. Refer to MODULE, ELECTRIC PARK BRAKE (EPBM), DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION .

CAUTION:

If the Electric Park Brake (EPB) switch is actuated with the caliper removed from the caliper bracket and still connected electrically, the EPB motor will fully extend causing damage to the caliper piston. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable. If equipped with an Intelligent Battery Sensor (IBS), disconnect the IBS connector first before disconnecting the negative battery cable.
