Removal And Installation: Removal
All engines are equipped with a high quality full-flow, disposable type oil filter. A Mopar® or equivalent oil filter is recommended.
CAUTION:
When performing an engine oil change, the oil filter cap must be removed. Removing the oil filter cap releases oil held within the oil filter cavity and allows it to drain into the sump. Failure to remove the cap prior to reinstallation of the drain plug will not allow complete draining of the used engine oil.
- Place an oil absorbent cloth around the oil filter housing at the base of the oil filter cap.
- Use a 15/16" or a 24 mm socket only and rotate the oil filter cap (1) counterclockwise until it is disengaged from the oil filter housing (2).
- Lifting the oil filter cap upward, remove the oil filter from the housing pulling in a straight line.
- Remove the oil filter from the oil filter cap by pulling in a straight line motion.NOTE:
DO NOT use a Pencil Snap motion to remove the filter from the cap. The pencil snap motion can cause the cap to become disassembled, if this happens, it should be reassembled, not discarded.
- Remove and discard the O-ring seal (1).
