Clunking Noise During Acceleration

SYMPTOM POSSIBLE CAUSE REPAIR
Clunk/snap noise during launch or shifting into drive or reverse.
  • Loose hub nut.
  • Damaged hub splines.
  • Worn hub washer.
  • Missing hub washer.
  • Replace the hub nut.
  • Replace the hub bearing and halfshaft.
  • Replace the hub washer.
Clunking noise at low speed.
  • Severely worn or damaged tripod or Constant Velocity (CV) joint.
  • Replace the halfshaft.
Rattle/clunk over bumps. Grease slung around undercarriage.
  • Loss of lube in the CV joint boots.
  • Replace the halfshaft.
