Diagnostic Test

  1. ANTENNA INSPECTION 
    1. Using Service Information locate and verify the antenna is on the vehicle.
    2. Visually inspect the Antenna for damage.

      Is the antenna missing or damaged?

      Yes 

      • Replace the GPS Antenna in accordance with the Service Information.
      • Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .

      No 

      • Go To  2
  2. CHECK THE ANTENNA CONNECTIONS 
    1. Turn the ignition off.
    2. Disconnect the GPS Antenna connector at the Antenna.
    3. Disconnect the GPS Antenna connector at the rear of the Radio.
    4. Inspect both of the GPS Antenna connections and verify the Antenna is torqued to specification.

      Were the antenna connections clean and torqued to specification?

      Yes 

      • Go To  3

      No 

      • Clean the GPS Antenna connection(s) / torque to specification as necessary.
      • Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
  3. CHECK THE RADIO 
    NOTE:

    Antenna reception testing

    must

    be done outside and away from man made structures or natural features to ensure all signals are not obstructed.

    1. Disconnect the Radio GPS Antenna harness connector from the Radio.
    2. Connect the (special tool #9977-6-9, Adapter, RG-58 Coax Cable) and the (special tool #9977-6-GPS-GLO, Antenna, GPS GLONASS) (1) to the Radio at the GPS Antenna connector location.
    3. Place the test antenna base on the roof of the vehicle.
    4. Turn the ignition on.
    5. Turn the Radio on
    6. Drive the vehicle outside in a un-obstructed area.

      Is the reception still poor or not available?

      Yes 

      • Replace the Radio in accordance with the Service Information.
      • Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .

      No 

      • Go To  4
  4. CHECK THE ANTENNA 
    NOTE:

    Antenna reception testing

    must

    be done outside and away from man made structures or natural features to ensure all signals are not obstructed.

    1. Turn the Radio off.
    2. Turn the ignition off.
    3. Disconnect the (special tool #9977-6-9, Adapter, RG-58 Coax Cable) and the (special tool #9977-6-GPS-GLO, Antenna, GPS GLONASS) (1) from the Radio.
    4. Reconnect the GPS Antenna harness connector to the Radio.
    5. Disconnect the GPS Antenna harness connector from the GPS Antenna.
    6. Connect the (special tool #9977-6-GPS-GLO, Antenna, GPS GLONASS) (1) to the GPS Antenna harness connector in place of the GPS Antenna.
    7. Turn the ignition on
    8. Turn the Radio on.
    9. Drive the vehicle outside in a un-obstructed area.

      Is the reception still poor or not available?

      Yes 

      • Go To  5

      No 

      • Replace the GPS Antenna in accordance with the Service Information.
      • Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
  5. CHECK THE ANTENNA CABLE 
    1. Turn the Radio off.
    2. Turn the ignition off.
    3. Disconnect the GPS Antenna harness connector from the Radio.
    4. Connect the appropriate (special tool #9977-6-4, Jumper) (1) or (special tool #9977-6-2, Jumper) (1) to the GPS Antenna harness connector in place of the Radio.

    5. Connect the appropriate (special tool #9977-6-1, Adapter) (1) or (special tool #9977-6-3, Adapter) (1) to the Jumper.
    6. Measure the resistance across the tool terminals.

      Is the resistance between 47.5 and 52.5 Ohms?

      Yes 

      • The source of the poor reception is not caused by the Radio, Satellite Antenna Cable or Satellite Antenna.
      • Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .

      No 

      • Replace the GPS Antenna Cable in accordance with the Service Information.
      • Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
