Diagnostic Test

  1. CHECK FOR AN ACTIVE DTC
    NOTE:

    • Before testing, inspect the AUX port, USB port and SD slot for damage or debris inside the ports and device connectors that can cause concerns with system operation.
    • Use a known good compatible device and USB cable that works on a similar system when testing for concerns.
    • Verify that no other devices are connected to the system during testing.

    1. With the scan tool, read Radio DTCs and record on the repair order.
    2. With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
    3. Cycle the ignition switch from on to off, wait five seconds and then back to on.
    4. Connect a known good USB device into the USB port.
    5. With the scan tool, read Radio DTCs.

  2. CHECK THE CONNECTORS AND HARNESS
    1. Turn the ignition off.
    2. Disconnect the USB harness connector at the back of the radio.
    3. Inspect the connectors and harness between the USB port and the radio.

Are there any issues with the harness or connectors?

  3. CHECK THE MEDIA PORT
    NOTE:

This test is designed to validate the ability of the Audio/Media system to play audio from a customer's device that has been connected to the USB port on the radio or the external USB port (Universal Customer Interface (UCI) / Multi- Media port). By connecting a known good compatible device to the USB ports it will also determine if the USB port can provide power to a connected device.

It is important to determine the system features supported by the vehicle's multi-media systems, customer's personal device and their compatibility with another.

For device compatibility, refer to http://www.driveuconnect.com

Prior to performing any testing of the multi-media systems, the compatibility between the customer's personal device and the vehicle's multi-media systems must be confirmed.

    1. Confirm the USB port is not a Charge only  port.
    2. Using a known good USB Cable, connect the USB Cable to the vehicle's USB port.
    3. Connect the USB Cable to the known good compatible device.
    4. Select and audio file from the known good compatible device to be heard with the volume all the way up.
    5. Using the vehicle controls, place the audio system into USB Mode. (Audio system may automatically enter into USB Mode.)

Does the Radio play audio from the known good compatible device?

      Yes

      • Go To  4

      No

  4. CHECK RELATED HARNESS CONNECTIONS
    1. Disconnect all Radio harness connectors.
    2. Disconnect all related in-line harness connections (if equipped).
    3. Disconnect the related component harness connectors.
    4. Inspect harness connectors, component connectors, and all male and female terminals for the following conditions:
      • Proper connector installation.
      • Damaged connector locks.
      • Corrosion.
      • Other signs of water intrusion.
      • Weather seal damage (if equipped).
      • Bent terminals.
      • Overheating due to a poor connection (terminal may be discolored due to excessive current draw).
      • Terminals that have been pushed back into the connector cavity.
      • Perform a terminal drag test on each connector terminal to verify proper terminal tension.

Repair any conditions that are found.

    5. Reconnect all Radio harness connectors. Be certain that all harness connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
    6. Reconnect all in-line harness connectors (if equipped). Be certain that all connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
    7. Reconnect all related component harness connectors. Be certain that all connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
    8. With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
    9. Using the recorded Environmental Data, along with the When Monitored and Set Conditions above, operate the vehicle in the conditions that set the DTC.
    10. With the scan tool, read Radio DTCs.
