Diagnostic Test
- CHECK FOR AN ACTIVE DTC
- Turn the ignition on and open one of the front doors.NOTE:
A front door must remain open whenever checking or erasing Radio DTCs.
- With the scan tool, read Radio DTCs and record on the repair order.
- With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
- Cycle the ignition switch from on to off, wait five seconds and then back to on.
- With the scan tool, read Radio DTCs.
Did the DTC return?
Yes
- Go To 2
No
- Perform the TESTING FOR AN INTERMITTENT CONDITION procedure. Refer to TESTING FOR AN INTERMITTENT CONDITION .
- Turn the ignition on and open one of the front doors.
- CHECK THE BATTERY VOLTAGE TO THE RADIO WITH THE SCAN TOOL
- With the scan tool in Data Display, read the Radio battery voltage.
Is the battery voltage less than 8.5 volts?
Yes
- Go To 3
No
- Replace the Radio in accordance with the Service information. Refer to MODULE, RADIO RECEIVER, REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
- With the scan tool in Data Display, read the Radio battery voltage.
- CHECK THE BATTERY VOLTAGE TO THE RADIO
- Disconnect the Radio C1 harness connector.NOTE:
Check the Radio harness connector for signs of corrosion, pushed out or bent terminals, and correct pin tension.
- Measure the voltage between ground and the (A933) Fused B+ circuit at the Radio C1 harness connector.
Is the battery voltage less than 8.5 volts?
Yes
- Go To 4
No
- Repair the (A933) Fused B+ circuit for high resistance.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
- Disconnect the Radio C1 harness connector.
- CHECK RADIO GROUND
- With a 12-volt test light connected to 12 volts, check the (Z921) Ground circuit at the Radio C1 harness connector.NOTE:
The test light must illuminate brightly. Compare the brightness to that of a direct connection to the battery.
Does the test light illuminate brightly?
Yes
- Go To 5
No
- Repair the open or high resistance on the (Z921) Ground circuit.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
- With a 12-volt test light connected to 12 volts, check the (Z921) Ground circuit at the Radio C1 harness connector.
- CHECK FOR CHARGING SYSTEM RELATED DTCS IN THE POWERTRAIN CONTROL MODULE (PCM)
- With the scan tool in ECU View, select PCM and check for any Charging System related DTCs.
Does the scan tool display any Charging System related DTCs?
Yes
- Refer to DIAGNOSTIC CODE INDEX and perform the appropriate charging system or battery DTC diagnostic procedure.
No
- Test Complete.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
- With the scan tool in ECU View, select PCM and check for any Charging System related DTCs.
