Theory Of Operation
The left and right pinch sensors are integral to the Power Liftgate Module (PLGM). The pinch sensors are made with a 10K ohm resistor. When a pinch occurs, the resistor is shorted and when there is no pinch, the resistor is not shorted. The resistance seen must be less than 1K ohm when the sensor is pinched. The PLGM performs diagnostics for both sensors. Because a pinch and a short are close to the same value, the shorted DTC shall wait 10-20 seconds to make sure the sensor is shorted. A shorted or open pinch sensor shall be treated as a pinch at all times. The PLGM shall use the signal from the right pinch thermistor to determine temperature. The temperature is used to calibrate the strength of the prop rod.
