Diagnostic Test
- ATTEMPT TO TRANSFER THE SKIM SECRET KEY INTO THE PCM NOTE:
DO NOT ERASE ANY FAULTS BEFORE PERFORMING THIS TEST PROCEDURE.
NOTE:No new Keys/FOBIKs can be programmed to the vehicle if the P0633 DTC is active.
- If the defaulted value has not been transferred to the WCM/WIN the fault can be fixed by simply running the "PCM Replaced" routine. The only way to verify if the WCM/WIN Secret Key is not the default value is to run the "PCM Replaced" routine with the DTC active. If the fault changes to stored after the routine is complete, the WIN/WCM has the original Secret Key stored and it was transferred successfully to the PCM. Follow the steps below to determine if the Secret Key can be transferred.
- Turn the ignition on.
- With the scan tool, perform the "PCM Replaced" routine.
- Turn the ignition off for 10 seconds.
- Turn the ignition on.
- With the scan tool, read DTCs.
Did the P0633 DTC change to stored?
Yes
- The Secret Key information has been successfully transferred into the PCM. The fault can be cleared and Keys/FOBIKs can be programmed.NOTE:
This is a non MIL fault. If the customers complaint is for a MIL on, this repair will not fix the condition that caused the MIL to be on.
- Perform the POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to POWERTRAIN VERIFICATION TEST .
No
NOTE:The Secret Key information is no longer stored on the vehicle. Both the PCM and WCM/WIN have default data stored.
- Go To 2
- The Secret Key information has been successfully transferred into the PCM. The fault can be cleared and Keys/FOBIKs can be programmed.
- FOLLOW THE RECOMMENDED PROCEDURE FOR THE SCENARIO IN THE TABLE BELOW
VEHICLE CONDITION RECOMMENDED REPAIR ACTION(S) Vehicle runs, customer complaint is MIL on and P0633 is active with other DTCs present The P0633 DTC is active because of a prior PCM replacement without the Secret Key being transferred. The fault will not change to stored because the default Secret key data was transferred to the WCM/WIN. The vehicle runs because the Key/FOBIK is programmed to the default value in the WCM/WIN. - If the customer complaint is the MIL on, there should be other DTCs present in the PCM. The MIL is on because of the other DTCs, regardless of whether they are active or stored. The P0633 fault will not turn on the MIL. Repairing the other faults and clearing DTCs will turn off the MIL even with P0633 active. If the customer is not adding Keys/FOBIKs, it is not necessary to repair the P0633 DTC since this is a non MIL fault.
Vehicle runs and customer complaint is not related to the WCM/WIN Keys/FOBIKs, or a MIL The P0633 DTC is active because of a prior PCM replacement without the Secret Key being transferred. The fault will not change to stored because the default Secret key data was transferred to the WCM/WIN. The vehicle runs because the Key/FOBIK is programmed to the default value in the WCM/WIN. - The MIL is not on because P0633 is a non-MIL fault. If the customer is not adding Keys/FOBIKs, it is not necessary to repair the P0633 fault.
The "WIN/WCN Replaced" routine was run with default data in the PCM and vehicle Keys/FOBIKs are not working with an active P0633 NOTE:Replace the WIN/WCM. DO NOT ERASE THE P0633 FAULT. With the P0633 DTC active, the scan tool will request the unique Secret Key value in the new WIN/WCM get transferred to the PCM and over-write the default value. Using the scan tool, perform the "WIN/WCM Replaced" routine. When the routine starts the three messages listed below will appear. If you read the messages below on the screen before selecting continue, the routine will time out and fail before you can finish reading the messages. Select the continue button without reading the on screen messages to allow the unique Secret Key data to transfer to the new WIN/WCM and PCM.If the original PCM or WCM/WIN are available and can communicate, it may be possible to reconnect one of them to the vehicle and transfer the original Secret Key data back into the vehicle. This would allow the original Keys/FOBIKs to operate again.
- On screen messages that will be displayed:
- Important: DTC P0633 is present in the PCM. This means that the PCM does NOT contain a secret key.
- To prevent having to cut and program new keys you should attempt to recover the original secret key information from either the original WCM or the original PCM by running the appropriate WCM Misc Function (PCM replaced or WCM replaced).
- If neither the original PCM or WCM is available, then continue this function. IMPORTANT!!! The vehicles original keys will no longer work for this vehicle. Cut the new keys if needed and program them into WCM.
- After the new Secret Key data is programmed successfully in the WIN/WCM and PCM, program the new Keys/FOBIKs to the new WIN/WCM.
Vehicle runs and customer wants additional Keys/FOBIKs added and programmed with P0633 Active The active P0633 DTC will prevent any additional Keys/FOBIKs from being programmed. To add new Keys/FOBIKs the WIN/WCM will have to be replaced. This will make any current Keys/FOBIKs inoperative. DO NOT ERASE THE P0633 FAULT. The new WIN/WCM can accept the unique Secret Key transfer if the P0633 DTC is active. - Replace the WIN/WCM.
- Using the scan tool, perform the "WIN/WCM Replaced" routine.
