Theory Of Operation

Unlike the passenger ajar signals that function like traditional open/closed ajar switches, the Driver Door Latch has redundant switches and signals for diagnostic purposes. The two switches share a common sensor ground. The Powertrain Control Module (PCM) receives the state (open/closed) of each switch over the CAN Bus from the Drivers Door Module (DDM) or Body Control Module (BCM) depending on the vehicles configuration and which module the latches are hard-wired to. The PCM continuously monitors the functioning status of the Driver Door Ajar Switch states for the operation of certain features such as Electric Stop/Start (ESS).

For further information on the effect of this DTC to the operation of ESS, see ENGINE START/STOP (ESS) INOPERATIVE  . Refer to DIAGNOSIS AND TESTING .
