Theory Of Operation
The purpose of this diagnostic is to detect that a dog clutch is not able to engage within a calibrated amount of time. During normal operating conditions, a dog clutch shift in progress may be temporarily interrupted by disengaging the drive-line ("extended neutral") if a successful dog clutch engagement has not occurred. If this "extended neutral" state of dog clutch disengagement is active for greater than a calibrated amount of time without a successful re-engagement, a failure is detected.
