Theory Of Operation

The purpose of the diagnostic is to detect and prevent undesired acceleration during a 5-4 coasting downshift. When the oncoming or off-going active clutch slips during the shift, the output torque is determined by the active clutch so that a positive torque intervention only influences the shift time, not the output torque. In case of an error the output torque will be increased, which causes an undesired acceleration.
