Diagnostic Test

  1. CHECK FOR AN ACTIVE DTC 
    1. Turn the ignition on and open one of the front doors.
      NOTE:

      A front door must remain open whenever checking or erasing Video Routing Module (VRM) DTCs.

    2. With the scan tool, read VRM DTCs and record on the repair order.
    3. With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
    4. Cycle the ignition switch from on to off, wait five seconds and then back to on.
    5. With the scan tool, read VRM DTCs.

      Did the DTC return?

      Yes 

      • Go To  2

      No 

  2. CHECK THE CABLE CONNECTION AT THE VIDEO ROUTING MODULE (VRM), IN-LINE Y-HARNESS CONNECTOR, AND LEFT FRONT SEAT BACK VIDEO SCREEN MODULE 
    1. Turn the ignition off.
    2. Inspect the Left Front Seat Back Screen Module harness connector for a secure and undamaged connection.
    3. Inspect the Left Front Seat Back Screen Module harness connector for a secure and undamaged connection.
    4. Inspect the VRM harness connector for a secure and undamaged connection.
    5. Using the appropriate SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAM as a guide, check the in-line Y harness connector for a secure and undamaged connection in the seat back.

      Are the connections secure and undamaged?

      Yes 

      • Go To  3

      No 

      • Repair the cable connection as needed and check video operation.
      • Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
  3. TEST THE (A984) IGNITION SWITCH OUTPUT CIRCUIT AT THE LEFT FRONT SEAT BACK VIDEO SCREEN MODULE 
    1. Turn the ignition off.
    2. Disconnect the Left Front Seat Back Video Screen Module harness connector.
    3. With a 12-volt test light connected to ground, check the (A984) Ignition Switch Output circuit at the Left Front Seat Back Video Screen harness connector.
      NOTE:

      The test light must illuminate brightly. Compare the brightness to that of a direct connection to the battery

      Does the test light illuminate brightly?

      Yes 

      • Go To  4

      No 

      • Repair the (A984) Ignition Switch Output circuit for an open or high resistance.
      • Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
  4. TEST THE (Z915) GROUND CIRCUIT AT THE LEFT FRONT SEAT BACK VIDEO SCREEN MODULE 
    1. With a 12-volt test light connected to 12 volts, check the (Z915) Ground circuit at the Left Front Seat Back Video Screen Module harness connector.

      Does the test light illuminate brightly?

      Yes 

      • Go To  5

      No 

      • Repair the (Z915) Ground circuit for an open or high resistance.
      • Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
  5. TEST THE (J101) VIDEO SCREEN CABLE 
    1. Turn the ignition off.
    2. Disconnect the Left Front Seat Back Video Screen Module harness connector.
    3. Disconnect the VRM harness connector.
      NOTE:

      The Y-Cable adapter (9977-6-12-4Y) included with the test cable kit (9977-6-12) must be used to split the signal from the VRM to the display screen and USB media hub. IF, the Y-Cable adapter is not used the display screen will flash momentarily and then go dark with a single red light on.

    4. Connect Special Test Cable (special tool #9977-6-12, Adapter, HSD-LVDS Mini B USB)between the Left Front Seat Back Video Screen Module C2 harness connector and the VRM C2 harness connector.
    5. Turn the ignition on.
    6. With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
    7. Turn the Radio on and wait 25 seconds.
    8. With the scan tool, read DTCs.

      Is the DTC active?

      Yes 

      • Go To  6

      No 

      • Replace the (J101) Video Screen Cable and Y-connector in accordance with the service information.
      • Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
  6. TEST THE LEFT FRONT SEAT BACK VIDEO SCREEN MODULE 
    1. Obtain a known good Left Front Seat Back Video Screen before proceeding.
    2. Replace the Left Front Seat Back Video Screen.
    3. Reconnect all connectors.
    4. Turn the ignition on.
    5. With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
    6. Turn the Radio on and wait 25 seconds.
    7. With the scan tool, read VRM DTCs.

      Is the DTC active?

      Yes 

      • Go To  7

      No 

      • Replace the Left Front Seat Back Video Screen in accordance with the service information.
      • Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
  7. CHECK RELATED HARNESS CONNECTIONS 
    1. Disconnect all VRM harness connectors.
    2. Disconnect all related in-line harness connections (if equipped).
    3. Disconnect the related component harness connectors.
    4. Inspect harness connectors, component connectors, and all male and female terminals for the following conditions:
      • Proper connector installation.
      • Damaged connector locks.
      • Corrosion.
      • Other signs of water intrusion.
      • Weather seal damage (if equipped).
      • Bent terminals.
      • Overheating due to a poor connection (terminal may be discolored due to excessive current draw).
      • Terminals that have been pushed back into the connector cavity.
      • Perform a terminal drag test on each connector terminal to verify proper terminal tension.

      Repair any conditions that are found.

    5. Reconnect all VRM harness connectors. Be certain that all harness connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
    6. Reconnect all in-line harness connectors (if equipped). Be certain that all connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
    7. Reconnect all related component harness connectors. Be certain that all connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
    8. With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
    9. Using the recorded Environmental Data, along with the When Monitored and Set Conditions above, operate the vehicle in the conditions that set the DTC.
    10. With the scan tool, read VRM DTCs.

      Did the DTC return?

      Yes 

      No
