Diagnostic Test
- CHECK FOR AN ACTIVE DTC NOTE:
It is recommended that a battery charger be connected and set on low during this test.
NOTE:Be sure the thumbwheels on the Dimmer Module are turned fully on during this test.
- Turn the ignition on.
- With the scan tool, create a Vehicle Scan Report and attach it to the repair order.
- Turn the ignition on to off three times and leave in the Lock position.
- Turn the park lamps on.
- Wait one minute.
- With the scan tool, read PDM DTCs.
Is the DTC active?
Yes
- Go To 2
No
- Perform the TESTING FOR AN INTERMITTENT CONDITION procedure. Refer to TESTING FOR AN INTERMITTENT CONDITION .
- CHECK THE PASSENGER DOOR HANDLE LAMP FOR A SHORT
- With the scan tool, erase the DTCs.
- Turn the ignition off.
- Remove the inner door panel trim in accordance with the Service Information.
- Make sure the Passenger Door Handle Lamp connector is disconnected.
- Re-connect the Passenger Door Map Pocket Lamp connector.
- Be sure the park lamps are still on.
- Turn the ignition on.
- Wait one minute.
- With the scan tool, read PDM DTCs.
Is the DTC active?
Yes
- Go To 3
No
- Replace the Passenger Door Handle Lamp Assembly.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
- CHECK THE PASSENGER DOOR MAP POCKET LAMP FOR A SHORT
- With the scan tool, erase the DTCs.
- Turn the ignition off.
- Disconnect the Passenger Door Map Pocket Lamp connector.
- Be sure the park lamps are still on.
- Turn the ignition on.
- Wait one minute.
- With the scan tool, read PDM DTCs.
Is the DTC active?
Yes
- Go To 4
No
- Replace the Passenger Door Map Pocket Lamp Assembly.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
- CHECK THE (M35) PASSENGER DOOR AMBIENT LAMP FEED CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO GROUND
- Turn the ignition off.
- Disconnect the Passenger Door Module C5 harness connector.
- Check for continuity between Ground and the (M35) Passenger Door Ambient Lamp Feed circuit at the PDM C5 harness connector.
Is there continuity between Ground and the (M35) Passenger Door Ambient Lamp Feed circuit?
Yes
- Repair the (M35) Passenger Door Ambient Lamp Feed circuit for a short to ground.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Go To 5
- CHECK THE (M35) PASSENGER DOOR AMBIENT LAMP FEED CIRCUIT FOR A SHORT TO THE (M36) PASSENGER DOOR LIGHTING RETURN CIRCUIT
- Check for continuity between the (M35) Passenger Door Ambient Lamp Feed circuit and the (M36) Passenger Door Lighting Return circuit at the PDM C5 harness connector.
Is there continuity between the (M35) Passenger Door Ambient Lamp Feed circuit and the (M36) Passenger Door Lighting Return circuit?
Yes
- Repair the (M35) Passenger Door Ambient Lamp Feed circuit for a short to the (M36) Passenger Door Lighting Return circuit.
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Go To 6
- Check for continuity between the (M35) Passenger Door Ambient Lamp Feed circuit and the (M36) Passenger Door Lighting Return circuit at the PDM C5 harness connector.
- CHECK RELATED HARNESS CONNECTIONS
- Disconnect all Passenger Door Module harness connectors.
- Disconnect all related in-line harness connections (if equipped).
- Disconnect the related component harness connectors.
- Inspect harness connectors, component connectors, and all male and female terminals for the following conditions:
- Proper connector installation.
- Damaged connector locks.
- Corrosion.
- Other signs of water intrusion.
- Weather seal damage (if equipped).
- Bent terminals.
- Overheating due to a poor connection (terminal may be discolored due to excessive current draw).
- Terminals that have been pushed back into the connector cavity.
- Perform a terminal drag test on each connector terminal to verify proper terminal tension.
Repair any conditions that are found.
- Reconnect all Passenger Door Module harness connectors. Be certain that all harness connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
- Reconnect all in-line harness connectors (if equipped). Be certain that all connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
- Reconnect all related component harness connectors. Be certain that all connectors are fully seated and the connector locks are fully engaged.
- With the scan tool, erase DTCs.
- Using the recorded Vehicle Scan Report, along with the When Monitored and Set Conditions above, operate the vehicle in the conditions that set the DTC.
- With the scan tool, read PDM DTCs.
Did the DTC return?
Yes
- Replace the Passenger Door Module in accordance with the Service Information. Refer to MODULE, DOOR (DDM/PDM), REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION .
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
No
- Perform the BODY VERIFICATION TEST. Refer to BODY VERIFICATION TEST .
- Test complete.
